The Solar Eclipse of August 12, 2026, at 20 Degrees of Leo
A plot twist, a turning point, or a reversal of some sort.

A total solar eclipse will occur on August 12, 2026. The path of
totality begins in the Arctic Ocean and northern Russia, crosses over
Greenland, Iceland, and northern Spain, and ends near the Balearic
Islands in the Atlantic/Mediterranean, with a tiny sliver also clipping
Portugal. A wide partial eclipse region extends across much of
Europe, northern Africa, and parts of North America (including
Canada and parts of the northern U.S.).
Solar eclipses are often associated with sudden events that disrupt
our routines. They can represent crises that seem to arise out of
nowhere, demanding our full and immediate attention. Unlike lunar
eclipses, which tend to affect our emotions and inner awareness,
solar eclipses can trigger more tangible shifts—physically,
consciously, socially, and even politically.
This eclipse will be triggered when Mars hits 30 degrees of Leo on
Nov 5, 2026. Look for some of the events foretold by this eclipse to
manifest then.
Wherever an eclipse falls across the Earth, that area often seems to
find itself in the news. It is interesting at this point to look at the birth
chart of Spain. According to news reports, 60,000 to 80,000 migrants
from Morocco have entered Spain creating protests and fighting from
some of the citizens. Transiting Pluto is on Spain’s Ascendant,
representing self-image and identity, and square Uranus, which can
symbolize foreigners and sudden disruption. At the same time,
transiting Mars is conjunct Spain’s natal Mars in Cancer, the sign
associated with the homeland. Watch for more news coming out of
Spain, as well as Greenland, Iceland, Portugal, and other areas along
the eclipse path.
A solar eclipse is a portal—a catalyst for a new beginning and a
harbinger of things to come. During this eclipse and for the six
months that follow, expect volatility that may feel fated rather than
random. Revelations can destabilize, but they can also liberate.
Innovation may be demanded wherever complacency has taken hold.
Because this is a solar eclipse, its effects can unfold over many
months, marking a longer-term rupture with the past and an
uncomfortable but necessary pivot toward new systems of value and
meaning. Eclipses can act like dominoes: they begin a sequence of
change, but the final outcome may take years to fully unfold.
A solar eclipse is also a New Moon, so this is a time to take action.
Initiate something new and break free from old habits and beliefs.
This eclipse will be particularly important for people born from the
mid-1950s through the end of 1954 because it will be conjunct their
natal Pluto. This eclipse could thrust them into prominence, leadership, or positions of greater influence.
Jupiter, at the time of this eclipse, is also in Leo, which will expand
and amplify the Leo energy. This year and next, Jupiter will transit
over the eclipse point three times. This can create substantial power
and momentum, particularly for a leader or public figure.
Whatever you are focusing on during this eclipse has the potential to
get bigger, so begin something around August 12 that you would like
to see grow and flourish in the coming months.
The shadow side of Leo is, “I’m right all the time.” This tendency can
appear in all four fixed signs—Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and
Aquarius—but Leo can sometimes carry it to extremes. Leo takes
pride in being right, and ego and pride can occasionally blind Leo to
reality.
The myth I use for Leo is the story of Phaethon. He persuaded his
father, the sun god Helios, to let him drive the chariot of the Sun. As
he was driving the Sun’s chariot across the zodiac; he sees the
enormous celestial Scorpion (Scorpius) stretching across the sky.
Scorpio threatens him with its claws and venomous tail. Phaethon
becomes terrified and drops the reins. The horses then bolt
completely out of control. The chariot went too high above the Earth
and the people began freezing; then it came too close and the Earth
and the people began burning. Finally, Zeus had to shoot him down.
This myth warns us against hubris and taking on more than we can
do. Also, be careful of being thrown off course by a Scorpio.
For some people, especially those who have been overly confident,
arrogant, or determined to remain in the spotlight, this eclipse could
bring about a fall from grace.
The ancients believed that during an eclipse, “the mighty will fall.”
Eclipses bring endings and beginnings—births and deaths. Their
energy can last for up to six months and can sometimes become
active a month or more before the actual eclipse.
The ancients also considered solar eclipses particularly dangerous
for rulers. The Sun symbolized kingship and authority, and during a
In a solar eclipse, the light of the Sun is temporarily blocked by the Moon.
An eclipse in Leo would have been especially ominous to them
because Leo is the sign of kings, rulers, leadership, and power. They
might well have expected a king to fall.
Vladimir Putin, who was born in 1952, will have this eclipse on his
midheaven and natal. The Midheaven is the point associated with
public standing, status, reputation, and one’s place in the outer world.
Pluto on his midheaven means that he projects world power. Since
the path of the eclipse also crosses parts of Russia; watch carefully
for news concerning Putin and Russia in the months surrounding this
eclipse. He may experience a loss of power during the next 6 months
or during the trigger in Nov.
PERSONAL EFFECTS OF THIS ECLIPSE
On a personal level, solar eclipses act like a spotlight, illuminating
both what has been hidden and what is ripe for renewal.
In my consultations, I have noticed that eclipses often wake people up
to areas of life they have overlooked, especially those associated with
the house in which the eclipse falls. Eclipses can challenge the status quo and redirect the course of your life.
If your birthday falls close to an eclipse, expect meaningful
developments during the months—and sometimes even the
years—that follow.
This eclipse at 20 degrees of Leo will particularly affect those with
personal planets or important chart points between approximately 18
and 22 degrees of Leo. Check your chart to see which house contains
these degrees. That house will show the area of life where you may
experience endings, beginnings, revelations, or a significant change
in direction.
If you are a client, consult your Planetary Placement and Ascendant
Sheet to see how this eclipse may affect you personally.

I leave you in the lap of the gods.
