Partial Lunar Eclipse — August 28, 2026, at 5° Pisces/Virgo

A Release of Old Patterns That Have Outlived Their Purpose

8/27/20264 min read

This eclipse will be visible in North and South America, Africa, Europe, Iceland, Greenland, Scandinavia, and over the eastern Pacific Ocean.

Mercury will be directly beside the Sun at 4° Virgo, while Uranus at 5° Gemini squares the eclipse. This creates a very tight mutable T-square across the eclipse axis. Mutable T-squares, especially with Uranus involved, can bring instability, rapid adjustments, and the realization that something has to change.

Mercury governs information, commerce, communication, and the markets. Uranus governs disruption, shocks, technology, and sudden reversals. Virgo deals with work, accounting, data, and systems, while Pisces tends to dissolve rules, boundaries, and structures. Pisces, the open-border sign, stands opposite Virgo's need for accounting, order, and control.

For this reason, I will be watching the financial system closely. Uranus could bring shocks or sudden reversals involving markets, currencies, banking, technology, or other financial structures.

There is also an interesting historical connection. The last time this same family of eclipses occurred was in August 2008, at the beginning of the period that developed into the global financial crisis. Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy on September 15, 2008. I think we could see echoes of that period during this eclipse cycle—not necessarily the same events, but similar themes involving instability in financial systems.

Because this eclipse is in Pisces, we may also see prominent spiritual or religious figures leave the stage. Pisces rules the oceans, marine life, water, and oil, so watch for developments involving these subjects. I have already been reading about the release of marine animals.

Pisces also has connections with drugs, blood, immunity, floods, deception, misinformation, and the media. The Strait of Hormuz may be especially worth watching because of its connection with both oil and the sea. There may also be renewed news involving Dr. Fauci and issues related to public health.

Uranus makes the effects of this eclipse especially unpredictable. Uranus rules earthquakes, volcanic activity, aviation disruptions, electricity, technology, and power and internet outages. It can also bring protests and movements centered on freedom, liberty, and individual human rights.

The influence of this eclipse may continue for about six months. Mars will strongly trigger the eclipse degree around December 8, 2026, which could bring some of its themes back into focus or move events that began around the eclipse into a more active stage.

Personal Effects of This Eclipse

A Lunar Eclipse gives us an opportunity to break out of an old cycle and move to another level. It can make us more aware of our patterns and unconscious motivations, while bringing old memories and feelings to the surface.

Because a Lunar Eclipse is an intensified Full Moon, it often brings matters to completion. Something may end, but that ending can quickly create room for a new opportunity.

Full Moon eclipses can also bring completion to something you have been working on for some time. Decisions that have been postponed may finally have to be made. With the Sun illuminating the Moon, previously unexamined areas of life can suddenly become conscious.

What have you outgrown? What are you ready to release? Where have you been giving away your power or playing the victim?

Lunar Eclipses tend to be more emotional than Solar Eclipses. Because a Lunar Eclipse occurs at a Full Moon, two opposing houses in your natal chart are activated.

This eclipse involves Pisces and Virgo. Pisces wants to dream, imagine, surrender, and follow intuition. Virgo wants to work, analyze, organize, and improve. The tension between these two approaches is part of what needs to be resolved during this eclipse period.

How do you honor your inner dreamer without neglecting the practical work that must be done? And how do you remain productive without allowing duty, details, and perfectionism to crowd out imagination and meaning?

Mercury is opposite the eclipsed Moon, while Uranus in Gemini squares both sides of the eclipse. Mercury rules Gemini, making the information and communication theme particularly strong. This could be an information-packed eclipse, bringing sudden news, revelations, changes of mind, or an intense urge to communicate. You may feel compelled to write, speak, teach, or express a perspective that is uniquely your own.

Look back at what was happening in your life around August 2008. Themes from that period may return in a different form, giving you another opportunity to understand, complete, or move beyond something that began then.

An eclipse tends to emphasize matters connected with the house in which it falls in your natal chart, as well as any planets it conjuncts or opposes. The areas represented by those houses and planets may demand more attention, thought, energy, and time from you during the months ahead.

Eclipses open doors. They illuminate and stimulate areas of our lives that need attention, sometimes by bringing circumstances we can no longer ignore.

Who Will Feel This Eclipse Most Strongly?

The Lunar Eclipse on August 28 will have its strongest personal impact if your Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, or Ascendant is between 3° and 7° of Pisces or Virgo.

If the eclipse falls on one of these points, it may signal the ending of one set of circumstances and the beginning of another. Let go.

The impact of an eclipse on a personal planet—the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, or Mars—or on the Ascendant is generally much stronger and more immediately noticeable than an aspect to one of the slower-moving planets.

Look at your natal chart for planets between 3° and 7° Pisces or Virgo. If the eclipse falls on a personal planet, check my planetary keyword list.

Also look at the houses in your natal chart containing 3° to 7° Pisces and Virgo. These two houses describe the areas of life in which this eclipse story is most likely to unfold.

I leave you in the lap of the gods.
