HAPPY NEW YEAR – 2023

Let’s take a peak ahead to 2023.  It looks like it will be a much different and easier year than the last three because some of the past difficult aspects have dissipated. There are a few challenging aspects in Mid-May, the second half of July and the end of October.  But these are not long-lasting. Of course, how all of these changes and aspects will affect you depends on the position of the planets in your birth chart. 

This coming year will be a huge turning point for humanity because it contains some big planetary shifts. This could cause the pace to pick up and some chaos during the year. Let’s look at the three outer planets changing signs -- Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto.

Jupiter will move into Taurus on May 16. Taurus will add some stability to expansive Jupiter. Jupiter wants to move ahead and follow his dreams and Taurus will slow him down a bit.  Look for the house in your natal chart that contains Taurus.  Slow, steady progress and growth will happen there. Here is a list of the houses and their meanings.

Saturn, the planet of responsibility, is moving into spiritual and imaginative Pisces on March 7, 2023.  Saturn will stay in Pisces until May 2025. We could bring our dreams into reality at this time. Pisces prefers chaos and Saturn demands order.  Saturn in Pisces can help us manifest our Piscean ideals—spirituality, dreams, art and music.  Saturn can bring structure to the house in your birth chart that contains Pisces.

Pluto, the planet of power, is moving into Aquarius on March 23. He is moving from Capricorn the sign of big corporate and government control, into the sign of the people. He only changes signs once every 20 years on average. We will see major reforms in social structures and politics. He will back into Capricorn on June 11, 2023, and then he will stay in Aquarius from 2024 until 2044. 

Pluto moving into Aquarius is by far the most important transit of the year and the decade. If you have planets or angles at 0 degrees of Aquarius, plus or minus 5 degrees, this is one of the most important transits of your life. Pluto will only spend 3 months in Aquarius in 2023, but that’s enough to give us a taste of what’s about to come in the next 20 years of our life. 

At a personal level, Pluto in Aquarius will activate a particular house in your natal chart, asking for a total transformation of that area of your life.  The impact to that house can be quite dramatic.

This Month Mercury moves direct on January 18. Mars turns direct on January 12 and The New Moon in Aquarius is on the 21^st. It’s OK to make your New Year’s resolutions on the first of this month, but I don’t think you will be able to move forward until after the 12^th of the month.  Sorry. So don’t push too hard-- the gods get angry if you don’t follow the script.  What script do you say?  We can all read it-- it’s written in the sky.

Jan 1 – Venus Conjunct Pluto at 27 degrees of Capricorn. This could bring a lot of intensity to your relationships.  You could discover a negative trait in someone that you never noticed before. This is an aspect portrayed by the story of Persephone being abducted by Hades.  Persephone brought this on herself by being so damn innocent and naïve. Keep your eyes open for any new relationship that comes in today. If you have personal planets or the ascendant anywhere from 25 to 29 degrees of Capricorn,--are you Persephone, or are you Hades?

Jan 2 – Venus enters Aquarius until Jan 26. Venus wants to cuddle and be safe, but Aquarius wants to break away from safety and shake things up a bit. Aquarius wants an open marriage, but Venus could get hurt if you even mention it. If at this time you meet someone who seems exciting, think again.  He can be exciting all right and a little bit nuts.  Aquarius also likes to show the truth of a situation.  You may want to have an open and frank conversation with someone close to you.

Jan 5 – Sun Trine Uranus at 15 Capricorn/Taurus. Capricorn and Taurus are stable earth signs.  Uranus is eccentric. So for a few days, you may be a little more adventurous than usual.  This is a great time to try new things and seek new solutions to old problems.  You need to cooperate with others to get results.  This aspect doesn’t bang you on the side of the head like a conjunction, square or opposition. If you have personal planets or the ascendant anywhere from 13 to 17 degrees of Capricorn or Taurus, take a trip to somewhere that you have never been to before.

Jan 6 – Full Moon at 16 Degrees of Cancer.  Full Moons are emotional times and Cancer is an emotional sign.  So get out the Kleenex—there may be a lot of crying and gnashing of teeth.  But this full moon has Mercury, the trickster on the Sun and Uranus the big daddy of all tricksters also trines the Sun.  So there could be some unexpected surprises.  The ruler of Cancer is the Moon and it indicates issues from the past, the home and the family.  Is this a good time for a family reunion?   I don’t think so.  Everyone will be playing the blame game. If you have personal planets or the ascendant anywhere from 14 to 18 degrees of Cancer, stay home and cry in your beer.

Jan 7 – Sun conjunct Mercury at 17 degrees of Capricorn.  Did I ever tell you that Capricorns can be a little hard-headed?  Try not to convince a Capricorn of anything today, it won’t go well.  This is a great aspect for communications, but the discussion will resolve around Capricorn themes such as career, land, buildings, and constructive ideas,  If you have personal planets or the ascendant anywhere from 15 to 19 degrees of Capricorn, try to keep your mind open and listen to what others have to say.  You may learn something.

Jan 8 – Mercury Trine Uranus at 15 Capricorn/Taurus.  You will be amazed at how talkative your Taurus and Capricorn friends are today.  They are usually quiet.  They are thinking outside the box at possible paths they could take to make a change in their life.  Can you believe it?  If you have personal planets or the ascendant anywhere from 13 to 17 degrees of Capricorn or Taurus, go for it, take a chance, the trine will protect you.

Jan 9 – Venus Trine Mars at 8 degrees of Aquarius/Gemini. Male and female energies are flowing today.  This is a wonderful day to enjoy the company of the opposite sex without the usual nasty barbs between you.  If you have personal planets or the ascendant anywhere from 6 to 10 degrees of Aquarius or Gemini, this would be a good day to begin a relationship.

Jan 12 – Mars turns direct at 8 degrees of Gemini. Mars has been retrograde for 2 ½ months. Mars is your energy and also your anger. While Mars was retrograde it may have been hard for you to gather the strength necessary to accomplish your tasks or to fight for yourself.  Or maybe you just felt tired of asserting yourself.  Now you have the vitality to face some challenges.  If you have personal planets or the ascendant anywhere from 6 to 10 degrees of Gemini or Sagittarius, try to remain calm and curb your anger.

Jan 14 – Venus Square Uranus at 14 degrees of Aquarius/Taurus.  This is a very exciting aspect.  You can make new interesting friends. It’s OK to form a relationship with someone who is a little different today, but not someone who is hearing voices and seeing giant rabbits!  You may want to give advice to everyone you know, but they really don’t want to hear it. If you have personal planets or the ascendant anywhere from 12 to 16 of Aquarius or Taurus you could get your back up today and not want to listen to advice from anyone.

Jan 18 – Mercury turns direct at 8 degrees of Capricorn.  Now that Mercury is direct you can catch up on things that you have let lapse. This is a good time to examine your career goals   Take your time to examine where you are headed.  Capricorn is about finances and long-term planning.

Sun Conjunct Pluto at 28 degrees of Capricorn. You can get a little compulsive and obsessive on this one. Try not to get into any arguments. I hate to tell you this, but you are not always right.  This is a good aspect of research into your favorite conspiracy theory.   If you have personal planets or the ascendant anywhere from 26 Capricorn to 1 Aquarius, it's best to stay home alone crouched over your desktop scrolling through the dark web.

Jan 20 – Sun enters Aquarius until February 18.  Aquarius wants new and exciting stuff to happen.  He can get easily bored. If you are stuck at home because of the weather, start a new project.  How about writing sci-fi short stories? That will fit in nicely with the energies this month.

Jan 21 – New Moon at 1 degree of Aquarius.  I like this new moon; it represents a new start in Aquarian things such as friendships, and working groups and social activities. It is in harmony with Jupiter which adds a big dollop of optimism.  You can now solve problems that require outside-the-box thinking.  It’s a time to reach out to people in your community and get involved in projects that help others in your neighborhood. This is a time to make progressive changes in your life. This sets the energy pattern for the whole month ahead.

Jan 22 – Uranus turns direct at 14 Taurus.  Uranus has been retrograde in Taurus for the last 5 months.  During that time you worked hard to keep things stable.  Now you can start making changes in your home or your finances. If you have personal planets or the ascendant anywhere from 12 to 16 Taurus or Scorpio, let this energy bring you to a new unprecedented place.

          Venus Conjunct Saturn at 24 degrees of Aquarius. Saturn is putting the brakes on all of your plans for socializing.  This is a serious aspect. It’s time to work on a budget, a diet and all of the things you hate.  If you have personal planets or the ascendant anywhere from 22 to 26 degrees of Aquarius, stay home and cancel the plans for the party and vacation.  You wouldn’t have any fun anyway.

Jan 26 – Venus enters Pisces until the 20^th of February.  Venus is exalted in Pisces.  She loves it here.  She loves the arts and Pisces loves music --what’s not to like?  Well, she can get a little clingy here and has no boundaries when it comes to her love object. And you could fantasize and daydream too much during this time.  But if you are an artist, go for it.

Jan 29 – Sun Trine Mars at 9 Aquarius/ Gemini.  You have a lot of energy today to start a new project with your friends. There is a lot of chit-chats back and forth on this one and a lot of running around in circles. There can be a lot of planning and abandoning of plans. But it can be fun.

          Mercury Trine Uranus at 14 Capricorn/Taurus. This is great for writers as it brings in new original ideas.   It can also bring in opportunities to travel and start unique friendships.  If you have personal planets or the ascendant anywhere from 12 to 16 degrees of Capricorn or Taurus, this aspect could shake you out of your doldrums.

 

OUTER PLANET TRANSITS FOR THIS MONTH:

JUPITER went into Aries last month on the 20^th.  He will stay in Aries all month moving from 1 degree to 5 degrees.  He is the big fat happy guy who is excessive in all things. In Aries, he wants to get out, play competitive sports, and start bossing everyone around. Jupiter will be in Aries until May 16, 2023. Look to the house in your birth chart that contains Aries. This month the areas of life ruled by that house will become more active.

SATURN is in Aquarius until March 2023. This month he moves from 22 to 25 degrees of Aquarius. Saturn rules our material world, and especially our career.  If you have the ascendant or any personal planets anywhere from 20 to 27 degrees of Aquarius, you may be in store for some hard lessons about the issues in the house containing Aquarius.  While Saturn is in Aquarius, he will run around trying to restrict social media that he will call fake news. Saturn hates to see freedom of expression which is what Aquarius is all about.

URANUS is in Taurus until April 2026. He is moving retrograde and will turn direct on the 22^nd of January. This month he will move from 15 to 14 degrees of Taurus. This is the time to break loose and make some radical changes in your life. I believe in ‘cooperating with the inevitable’. If you have Uranus in a challenging aspect to your ascendant or personal planets, (16 to 17 degrees of Taurus or Scorpio) go on a long vacation, preferably to somewhere you have never been before. Or make some major changes in your life. Taurus represents the Earth. Expect earth events in farming, food, earthquakes, volcanos, or major weather changes while Uranus is in Taurus.

NEPTUNE (creativity, sensitivity, escapism, dreams) is in Pisces until 2026. This month he will move from 22 to 23 degrees of Pisces.  If you have the ascendant or personal planets anywhere from 20 to 25 degrees of Pisces, you may lack focus during this time and just want to daydream. Beware of a betrayal, or a disappointment, and a sense of drifting. For the rest of us, Neptune can also bring artistic, musical, and creative expression, increased dreams, and spiritual insights. Watch for really inspired films to come out when Neptune is in Pisces. 

PLUTO is in Capricorn until March 23, 2023. This month Pluto moves from 27 to 28 degrees of Capricorn. He is grinding away in our psyche, bringing up all sorts of difficult psychological issues. You should run to your nearest therapist especially if you have the ascendant or personal planets anywhere from 25 degrees of Capricorn to 0 degrees of Aquarius.  Pluto asks what needs to die in order to be reborn.

ECLIPSES in May and June 2021

These are the first eclipses of the year and they will be occurring in Sagittarius and Gemini. The themes that these planets and houses represent will become active during this period. 

The first eclipse on May 26 is a Total Lunar Eclipse taking place in the sign of Sagittarius and Gemini. The second Eclipse is a Solar Eclipse on June 10 and takes place in Gemini.  The ancients believed that during an eclipse,” the mighty will fall". They bring endings and beginnings-- births and deaths. The energy from an eclipse can last up to six months and also become active a month before the actual eclipse.

The traditional belief is that rulers are born or die at the time of an eclipse.  President Trump* was born on a Lunar Eclipse in 1946, Prince William was born on a Solar Eclipse in 1982 and Princess Diana died on a Solar Eclipse in 1997. People born on an eclipse have a light that shines out to others and they tend to be popular or important people.

Total Lunar Eclipse on May 26, 2021, at 5 degrees of Sagittarius/Gemini

If you are in Australia, parts of the western US, western South America, or in South-East Asia, you will see this Total Lunar Eclipse that will last about 14 minutes.  

Jupiter will move into Pisces on May 13 and is will square the sun and the Moon of this eclipse. Whatever Sagittarius themes manifest on this eclipse will be even bigger because Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius.  Because Jupiter is in Pisces, it will bring in the mystical aspects of this Lunar Eclipse. This eclipse also conjuncts Mercury and Venus in Gemini.  These are both square to Neptune in Pisces,

Mercury in Gemini is very busy, the mind works overtime. But Neptune wants us to dream, to create music and art. Venus wants us to work on our relationships.  This eclipse is very complicated before of the aspects and its very mutable or unstable because it is in a mutable sign of Sagittarius.  You may feel scattered at this time.

On a Lunar Eclipse, something will end and on a Solar Eclipse, something will begin. A Lunar Eclipse is an opportunity to break habits or eliminate socially conditioned patterns of thoughts and behaviors that stand in the way of self-realization. 

This eclipse affects two signs:  Sagittarius and Gemini. This eclipse rules freedom, the truth, foreign travel, belief systems, and Issues of truth, and justice. 

A Lunar Eclipse can make us more aware of our patterns, and our unconscious motivations. This period of time can bring up old memories and feelings.  Full moon eclipses can bring things to completion that you have been working on. The Sun opposite the Moon lights up the Moon and brings previously unexamined areas of your life into awareness. Repressed energies emerge for confrontation and resolution.  Pay attention to your dreams. Lunar Eclipses are more emotional than Solar Eclipses.  Lunar Eclipses shine a light on things we weren’t aware of.

This is a very important and powerful lunar eclipse because it is a total lunar eclipse which is rare and also a Super Moon which means the Moon is close to the earth. That could bring up some seismic activity. 

Solar Eclipse on June 10, 2021, at 19 degrees of Gemini

The annular phase of this solar eclipse is visible from parts of Russia, Greenland, and northern Canada.

This Solar eclipse is conjunct Mercury in Gemini and square Neptune in Pisces.  Mercury rules Gemini so this eclipse will highlight all Gemini themes to a great extent.  These themes include learning, teaching, writing, and communication of all types.  Neptune loves the non-rational.  He loves fairy tales and myths.  A good time to write or read fantasy novels.

Solar Eclipses tend to relate to sudden events that disrupt our day to day functioning; they are the crisis that seems to come out of nowhere and that suddenly demands all of our conscious attention and focus. They tend to stir things up on a physical and conscious level much more than Lunar Eclipses.

A Solar Eclipse is a powerful new moon so make plans for the future. Set your intentions during this eclipse around Gemini themes – writing, speaking, teaching, networking, and studying.  The 6 months following this eclipse is an ideal time to make a fresh start in all of these Gemini areas.

How will these eclipses affect you?

Eclipses are contrary to the status quo. If impacted by one of these eclipses, your life will not run on the same track it has been on.  But that can be a good thing. Some view eclipses as release and renewal points.  If your birthday falls on or is close to the dates of an eclipse your life will change dramatically in the months and years ahead.

Eclipses repeat every 19 years.  We had solar and lunar eclipses at the same points In May and June of 2002. Look back to what happened then. This will continue a theme that was playing out at that time. But remember, sometimes eclipses get triggered after they occur so events can come in after the eclipse especially within 6 months after the event.

An eclipse tends to emphasize matters related to the house it falls in on your natal chart and what planets it conjuncts or opposes.  The areas ruled by the houses or planets will demand more energy and time from you, at least until the next eclipse in November and December of 2021.   Eclipses open doors and invite you to come in, illuminating and stimulating areas of your life that need your attention.

Remember that planetary energies are archetypal and archetypes can be expressed in many different ways. It’s really based on your consciousness and how you decide to work with these energies.

 

The Lunar Eclipse of May 26, 2021, at 5 degrees of Sagittarius/Gemini will affect you if you have personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and/or Mars) or the ascendant at 3 to 7 degrees of Sagittarius or Gemini.  Also, look at your natal chart for the 2 houses that hold 5 degrees of Sagittarius and Gemini. This eclipse will stir up events related to those houses. What can you shed that you no longer need?

The Solar Eclipse on June 10 at 19 degrees of Gemini will affect you if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 17 to 21 degrees of Gemini.  Also, look at your natal chart for the house that contains 19 degrees of Gemini.  It may mean the end of one set of circumstances and the beginning of another.

An Archetypal Astrological Review of Kamala Harris’ Birth Chart

Kamala Harris was born on Oct 20, 1964 at 9:28 PM in Oakland, CA.

I analyze birth charts by looking at the archetypes, or in other words, daimon’s or gods and goddesses. As Hillman’s states in his book, The Soul’s Code, “The soul of each of us is given a unique daimon before we are born and it has selected an image or pattern that we live on earth….the daimon is the carrier of our destiny. Thus we are born with unconscious drives and motivations.   The ancients Greeks called this energy the gods. Hillman called them daimons and Jung called them archetypes.   Archetypes are unconscious clusters of behaviors and patterns of emotions and mental constructs.  The most important archetypes in our birth chart are revealed by the sign of the Sun, the Moon, and the Ascendant.

My astrologer friend Robert Hand says that “You don’t know how much consciousness is pumped into a chart”.  That is true and that is why when I analyze a birth chart, I never try to analyze a chart of someone who is not there in front of me or not on the phone to give me feedback.  Each archetype has an evolved and unevolved or mature and immature aspect.  My experience has been that if we are introspective or have learned something from our suffering and work on ourselves, we have a better chance to manifest the higher elements of the archetypes.  My experience has also shown me that it is difficult to have worked on yourself and have all the archetypes operating in a conscious manner when you are young.   Usually, the way we evolve is that we work on our charts one archetype at a time, and by the time we are 60 or 70, there is a good chance that we have the entire chart humming along in a compassionate, conscious manner. 

I don’t know Karmala Harris personally so I do not know if she is evolved or unevolved or about the growth of all parts of her chart.  But here goes….

Kamala has the Sun in Libra, the Moon in Aries, and the ascendant in Gemini.  As I wrote earlier, I don’t like doing charts of people in a vacuum because it is so important to have a discussion with the person and to ask questions. That is the way to determine what level of consciousness the person is operating on.  I’m going to assume that Kamala has worked on herself and is operating at near the highest level of the archetypes in her birth chart. 

The Moon shows our emotional needs, the ascendant is the mask we wear, the persona, and the Sun is our core identity, what we are meant to become.  See my blog post for more on the Sun, Moon, and Ascendant meanings. The purpose of knowing these three aspects of our personality is to see if we can get them to work together.  Kamala has two air signs (Gemini and Libra) and one Fire sign (Aires).  Air signs represent the thinker and fire is the inspiration.  Fire warms the air signs that can be too cool and air fans the fire signs bringing energy and optimism to the fire.

Let’s look at the positive side of her archetypes.  First of all, she has 2 powerful goddesses in her chart; Athena (the Moon in Aries) and Aphrodite (the Sun in Libra). She was born on a Full Moon.  This can represent mood swings between what you know is logical and what your heart wants.  Trump was also born on a Full Moon, Lunar Eclipse. People born when the Moon is full are shining out a bright light that gets noticed.  They are hard to ignore.

Let’s look at the 3 important myths in her chart.  A good way to understand a mythical character or archetypes is to research how and where they were born.

 

LIBRA SUN

Aphrodite is the archetype for Libra and is the goddess of love and beautify.   Aphrodite’s birth tells us a lot about Libran energy. When Saturn castrated Uranus, it was the forces of stability, fear, rigidity, and repression against creativity, freedom, and rebellion. These energies were incompatible. The semen from the castration fell in the ocean and Aphrodite was born sailing in on a seashell.  She was the remedy for Saturn vs. Uranus.  She represents harmony and compromise. Libra rules law.  The symbol is the scales representing justice.

They are also people-pleasers, being the most sociable sign in the zodiac But Aphrodite was not all sweetness and light.  She became the mother-in-law from hell. She was jealous of her daughter-in-law Psyche because she was more beautiful and judged and punished her.

 

AIRES MOON

One of the myths for Aries is Athena the warrior, born from the head of her father.  When a prophecy was made to Zeus that a child born from his union with Metis would one day supplant him, he quickly swallowed Metis and the unborn child.  One day he had a raging headache and he asked Hephaestus (Virgo) to split open his head.  Out popped Athena, fully grown, dressed in armor, helmet, and sword.  Athena rules wisdom and battles.  There is a negative father image in this myth.  The father has a wound of some sort.  It seems one of the goals of the Aries is to overthrow the father, not turn their back on him, but to find the fragile human underneath the mask as Skywalker did to Darth Vader.

An Athena woman works with men and being a warrior she defends the patriarchy. This is a woman who will be surrounded by male energy her entire life and will learn to go into battle with them.  Aphrodite seduces men and manipulates them with her charms. Aphrodite is also male-oriented and would be lost without men in her life.

THE ASCENDANT IN GEMINI

Zeus had a clandestine affair with Maia.  She gave birth to Hermes.  When Hermes was only one day old, he got bored and restless in his cradle.  He got out and began walking around.  He decided he wanted milk and decided to steal some of his brother Apollo’s cattle.  He put his sandals on backward so no one could follow his footsteps. He sacrificed three of the cattle to the gods.

Apollo figured out that Hermes had stolen his cattle, but by this time Hermes had hidden the cattle and he was nbed in his cradle.  When Zeus and Apollo approached him, he pretended to be asleep and then sat up and said, ‘How could I steal your cattle, I am only a day old’ and he kept chattering on and making excuses.  He made Zeus and Apollo roar with laughter.

After they left, Hermes saw a tortoise and talked it into coming into his cave to play.  He killed the tortoise and made a lyre out of his shell and then got bored with the lyre which he gave to Apollo in exchange for the cattle.  He also stole Aphrodite’s girdle and the thunderbolts of Zeus, but each time he managed to talk his way out of trouble, making the Gods laugh even more.  Because of his communication skills, Zeus used him to go to the underworld and make deals with Hades. He also traveled to Olympus to talk to the Gods and to the earth world to help mortals. Because Hermes could talk to everyone on all levels, Zeus made him a messenger of the gods.  So he is a trickster and a liar, but that was when he was a baby.  His adult role is bringing important higher-level knowledge to mankind.

Looking at these three signs for Harris is why it is so ridiculous to fight for women candidates.  Gender doesn’t matter. What we could use is someone with feminine values, man or woman.  Karmala’s chart shows masculine values.  It would be nice to have a Demeter in office, a mothering type who would want to feed the world, or Artemis, the Goddess of the wilderness who protects the environment or Hestia, who is reliable to keep the home fires burning and protect our democracy. But I’m dreaming again.  So what we have instead is a law and order cop with good communication skills.

 

ASPECTS

Karmala has 4 aspects to Mars. Mars is the male planet and rules things such as the police.   Mars in his positive side is a protector.  The following are three of these aspects.

Jupiter in a Challenging Aspect to Mars – Her Mars is in Leo, a very powerful extroverted energy. Jupiter expands that Mars.  She is a fighter for her beliefs and has excessive enthusiasm and courage.  She may be impulsive and rash. A good idea for her would be to work out in a gym, hike, or use that energy in positive ways.

Saturn is Challenging Mars – I always look for at least one Saturn challenge in a chart.  I’m known as the pro-Saturn astrologer.  Saturn helps you work hard. With Mars, it indicates someone who has strength, endurance, and stamina. In her chart with the Gemini ascendant Saturn can take the many ideas she has and organize, shape, focus, and ground them.

Uranus challenges Venus – This is the signature of an unusual relationship. She would be attracted to and have relationships with someone outside of her country or group or social class.  One astrologer did a study and said that Uranus challenging Venus is an indication of a gay person.  I don’t find that true 100 percent of the time.  What I do find is that the person has a relationship that shocks others. Also, there is a need to integrate love with space and independence.  Uranus gets his back up so it would be difficult for her to compromise.

Neptune Challenges Mars – She could be a fighter for the underdog. Sometimes she is not clear on where she wants to go in life. Her sense of direction is confused.  Her aims and goals are not well thought out.  Neptune wants to escape reality.  A good outlet is taking off and running to the beach for a break. A not so good outlet is using drugs or alcohol.

Notice that three Gods, Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune are challenging her Mars.  Being angry or assertive or working on those issues are major themes in this chart.  How to assert without being seen as aggressive? How to be diplomatic but not a pushover?

Pluto challenges Venus – Some of her relationships could be tortuous or messy. This aspect represents wounding in a relationship. It occurred in her fourth house of home.  She may have suffered some sort of abuse there. Remember astrology doesn’t say what happened, it says what you perceived happened through the filter of your archetypes. 

 

The Election

 It would be presumptive of an astrologer to be sure of how the astrological energy of any aspect and transit would specifically manifest itself   But it is fun looking at the birth charts and guessing. I did predict Trump‘s win.  Because he was born on a Lunar Eclipse, his Ascendant was on Regulus, the king star, and also Jupiter, the King, had stopped in the sky the date and time he was born.  He is a king and son of Jupiter. So he is still hard to beat. (An aside--when I write about the great chart that President Trump has, I am accused of being a Trumper, I’m not a Republican nor a Democrat, So no nasty emails, please)

I did Joe Biden’s chart when he was VP to Obama, I will dig that out and repost it. Maybe when we get closer to the election, I won’t be able to help myself from predicting the winner.

A Myth for Gemini

I’m just sick of hearing that Geminis are fickle and shallow; because while they are talking to you, their eyes are flitting around the room looking to see if there is someone more interesting to talk to or talk “at”.  They are curious about who else is in the room.  Curiosity is always getting them into trouble.  For example, they think and sometimes act on such thoughts as, "I wonder what it would be like to be married to that person, to live in that country, to join a street gang, or to smoke some dope?"

Astrology can be considered the study of motivation and drive.  What drives one sign is to have one deep, intense, sexy, meaningful, relationship.  One other sign wants to reach the pinnacle of success.  Both of those aims bore Gemini to tears unless they have Scorpio or Capricorn in their charts. 

I’ll tell you a secret right from the fleet-footed Gemini’s mouth; what motivates and drives Gemini is that they want to read every book ever written, learn everything there is to know, have conversations with every interesting person on the planet, past and present, and live in every city in the world. Since they can’t do all of that, they settle for just running around in circles. So all of you success and relationship-oriented people should feel sorry for them.  Your goals are attainable;

Geminis love to talk; they learn by talking.  (Being a Gemini Sun myself I realize that I don't know what I think until I hear what I say.).  They love to share information; their life is about learning and teaching.

Gemini is Peter Pan and he wants to play. He doesn't want to look at his shadow side.  Remember Peter Pan got his shadow stuck in a drawer. Geminis select mates that mentally stimulate them.  But they can be bored easily, so someone who has a "short tape" could never be married to a Gemini for long. But never ask them to do couples counseling.  Geminis are not good at listening and feel that therapy doesn't move fast enough plus they can talk a therapist to death.

Gemini is a “T” (thinking) type in Myers Briggs and they repress the “F” (feeling) function.  So lots of people see them as “cold fish”. They can be cute and amusing for a while and then their incessant chatter can get on your nerves. 

Our President who has been nicknamed the ‘Carnival Barker’ is a Gemini, of course.  It always amazes me how people who do not know astrology can spot our archetypes.

Let’s look at the myth of Hermes for more explanation of the Gemini type

Myth:  Hermes

Zeus had a clandestine affair with Maia, and she gave birth to Hermes.  When he was only one day old, he got bored and restless in his cradle.  He got out and began walking around.  He decided he wanted milk and figured out what to do.  He created sandals and put them on backward, so no one could follow his footsteps. Then he stole his brother Apollo’s cattle.  He selected three out of the herd, rubbed sticks together to make fire, cooking the meat and dividing it into twelve portions.  He offered it as a gift to the twelve divinities. Apollo figured out that Hermes had stolen his cattle, but by this time Hermes had hidden the cattle and he was back in his cradle. When Zeus and Apollos approached him, he pretended to be asleep and then sat up and said, how could I have stolen the cattle, I am only a day old and he kept talking and making excuses.  He made Zeus and Apollo roar with laughter.   After they left, he saw a tortoise and talked it into coming into his cave to play.  He killed the tortoise and made a lyre out of its shell then got bored with the lyre, which he gave to Apollo in exchange for the cattle.

Hermes also stole Aphrodite’s girdle, and Zeus’ thunder, but each time he managed to talk his way out of trouble making the gods laugh even more. Because of his communication skills, Zeus used him to go to the underworld and make deals with Hades. He also traveled to Olympus to talk to the Gods and to the earth world to help mortals, but he never had a home of his own

Because Hermes could talk to everyone; the gods, Hades, and earthlings, Zeus made him Messenger of the Gods.

Gemini Traits:  Inventive, quick, and precocious, Geminis have a constant need for new experiences.  Born of deceit, they can talk anyone into anything.  They often say one thing, then do another, and are “trickster” figures. They get ahead in life because of their humor.  Geminis honor all the Gods and can take gifts away from all the Gods.  Intelligent but evasive, they can talk to anyone, at any level, but others do not know if they are coming or going.  Geminis are restless and move frequently. They are not elitist and move among all classes of people. They have the ability to take the knowledge of the Gods (spiritual ideas) and communicate them to others in layman’s terms.

A Myth for Taurus

The Sun has entered Taurus on April 19, 2020

Taurus is an earthy fixed sign and so they are not crazy about change. Mutable signs (Gemini, Sagittarius, and Pisces) keep adjusting their lives to meet outer circumstances.  But not Taurus, they find a place, job and relationships that suit them and they plop down and don’t move.  Getting them to budge is like trying to push a sleeping bull--he may get angry, but won’t move.

I’m sure the Taureans out there love being stuck in their homes during the coronavirus.  If they don’t they have a nasty Uranus aspecting one of their personal planets or their ascendant in their birth chart.  Also, we are now experiencing  Uranus In Taurus which only happens once in 84 years.  If anything gets the Taurus moving it is Uranus transiting their sign.  Since they aren’t used to making slight adjustments in their life, they usually don’t handle this energy very well and act in wildly unpredictable ways. They may get married, divorced, or move to Majorca.  That can shock the hell out of the rest of us who have close relationships with Taurus. Watch April 22 when the New Moon in Taurus meets up with Uranus.  Taurus types could start something new that is entirely outside the box for them.

Since Taurus rules the home, farms and the production of food.  Uranus in Taurus is causing a disruption in our food supply.  Taurus also rules banking, the image above is the bull statue on Wall Street.  They plan to move the bull because of protests and where are they thinking of moving it to? The New York Stock Exchange. You can't separate the bull image from money.

MYTH:

I usually use King Midas as an archetype for Taurus, but I’m sure a lot of Taureans out there are sick of me using greedy, materialistic King Midas as an archetype for their sign.  Well, there is another myth to describe the Taurus archetype and that is Hestia.   Hestia is known as the Mistress of the Hearth and is normally envisioned as a living flame or portrayed as a virgin maiden who covers her head with a veil.  Her worship went far back into prehistory times when each family honored the spirit of the hearth fire burning in the center of their round thatched hut.  It was regarded as a sacred space.

In ancient Greece, Hestia was the name of the place where family, friends or visitors would gather around a hearth for warmth and food.  Both Poseidon and Apollo wished to marry Hestia, but she asked Zeus to free her from these annoying suitors.  Zeus agreed that she could remain a virgin.  There is another story that Priapus tried to rape Hestia and a donkey brayed and she shrieked and Priapus fled in “comic terror”.  Hestia wasn’t hostile to men like Artemus or cold like Athena, she was very social and enjoyed family life even though it wasn’t her own.  What she loved most of all is being alone in her home.

When all the gods and goddesses were fighting, Hestia alone would not be brought into the fray.  She taught mankind how to build houses. She protects the towns, the town halls, and the altars.  In Rome, she was known as Vesta.  The Roman festival for Hestia is 28 of April, during the sign of Taurus.

Taurean Traits: We learn both the positive and negative aspects of Taurus from this myth.  Taurus hesitates to marry because she doesn’t want to leave her home, her job or her hometown.  They like their own place and the idea of sharing their space does not agree with them.  Also, they don’t let a stranger penetrate their “interior”.  They can be veery stubborn.  They are good at Real Estate.  They like stability and constancy and emotional and financial security are very important to them. They stay away from confrontations.  They aren’t adaptable to changing situations.  Focus and centering is their gift.

Myths for Aries

Myths for Aries 2020

Because Aries is the first sign of the zodiac it rules the first awakening by the individual into consciousness out of the ocean of the unconscious (Pisces) - Thus their need to be always starting something new and to be a pioneer.  They are good at making snap decisions.  Call them up if you need to make a decision and they will make it for you immediately. They are also very active; they get things done, which makes the rest of us sitting around in our pajamas amidst our clutter look like slugs.

They are always looking for new possibilities and as soon as the situation has settled down into something familiar they are off and running to discover and explore new territory.  Aries has been accused of being egotistic and showing little interest in the thoughts and feelings of others.  This is because the inner compulsion toward self-determination is so strong.  They want to be first in everything and are highly competitive so they charge right in and wipe out the opposition.

Aries is ruled by Mars, the warrior and Aries needs to have a battle, even if there is no threat.  Aries can find out who they are from their anger--what is it they want to fight.  Vigorous exercise is a must for Aries in order to channel the Mars energy.

Some women find Aries men very sexy as they are attracted to their physical energy.  After all, Aries is the ultimate masculine sign.  They are usually athletes or explorers.  In Victorian times, they would call Aries men “dashing” or “real sword bucklers”.  Sadly, in our modern age, there are very few swords left to buckle which leaves the Aries man sitting on the couch furiously pounding away on the remote.

Aries women may be afraid to express their assertive side because it may be unacceptable to others.   Because of this frustration, they can snap at you when you least expect it.  They do best if they have a job -- a real busy job -- preferably working alone. 

Do you drive too fast with the radio blaring?  Do you like to lead and won’t follow anyone or anything?  Look for the Mars/Aries archetype in your chart.  If you have planets in Aries, the house they are in and the planets involved can tell you where you will lead rather than follow and where you will show your individuality.

Myth:  Athena

One of the myths for Aries is Athena, the warrior, born from the head of her father.  When a prophecy was made to Zeus that a child born from his union with Metis would one day supplant him, he quickly swallowed Metis and the unborn child.  One day he had a raging headache and he asked Hephaestus (Virgo) to split open his head.  Out popped Athena, fully grown, dressed in armor, helmet, and sword.  Athena rules wisdom and battles.

In the myths of Jason (see below) and Athena, there are negative father images.  The father has a wound of some sort.  It seems one of the goals of the Aries is to overthrow the father, not turn their back on him, but to find the fragile human underneath the mask as Skywalker did to Darth Vader.

Myth:  Jason and the Argonauts

When Jason came of age to become king (a symbol of individuation), he returned to his father’s kingdom to reclaim the throne.  The usurper Pelias agreed to yield it if Jason brought him the Golden Fleece from King Colchis, which was guarded by a dragon.  Pelias knew that what he asked from Jason was hazardous and foolhardy.  He was certain Jason would never return, but Jason accepted the challenge.  All the Greek heroes joined Jason on a ship called the Argo.  When they reached the clashing rocks, Jason wanted to sail right through, but the elder Phineas advised him to send a dove through first.  If the bird passed, chances were the Argo would, too.  Jason took his advice and steered the ship past the rocks.  His next challenge was getting past three bulls, a dragon and a serpent that guarded the fleece.  Medea, King Colchis’ daughter, befriended him and saved him from certain death by providing him with charms and potions.  Jason obtained the Golden Fleece, and escaped from the land, bringing Medea with him while her father pursued them.  On the return to Greece, they married, but after a while, Jason grew weary of Medea and abandoned her for another woman.  Out of spite, Medea murdered Jason and their two children.  I equate Medea with Scorpio.  In my client’s lives, I often see Scorpio and Aries match up.  They are worthy opponents to each other.

Aries Traits:  Aries individuals have a strong need to develop a separate identity and to take on risky challenges. They can be naïve and can have a great deal of faith and vision.  They often have natural leadership ability and can accomplish difficult tasks.  Aries persons can be rash and hotheaded and need advice from more levelheaded types.  They are at times not grateful for the help of others.  They grow by facing their fears. It’s important for Aries to get in touch with feminine energy.

Happy Birthday Capricorn

I'd like to say "Happy Birthday Capricorn", but I'm afraid that they would get all gloomy and guilty 'cause they aren’t really happy. They then would try to analyze why and get gloomier still. And then their shoulders would stoop and they would get that burdened Cap look in the eye. Caps see the dark side of things and they love to mull over their past mistakes and other peoples’ failings.

But, I kinda like Capricorns.  I know, I know, they are not exactly a barrel of laughs to be around and they have a pessimistic, skeptical, satiric, view of the world and they may pop anti-depressants like candy.  But they are better off than the Jupiter’s (Sagittarians) out there who are running around drinking, gorging on donuts, and spending money on things they don’t need, thinking it will all turn out fine in the end.  Well, it doesn’t turn out fine and the Caps were right all along-- life is really tough.

In fact, if you want a totally realistic view of your finances, your relationships, your job and your life in general ask a Cap friend.  But duck for cover when they give you their analysis, which may sound more like a critical rant. But if you can take it, their insights can be very useful

Capricorns can go on forever in their little rut moaning and complaining, but Pluto is now going through their sign and kicking each Capricorn in the butt until 2023--OUCH!   Pluto will transform the Caps out there from a negative naysayer to the wise old man or woman they were meant to be.  Also, Saturn is in Cap until March 2020 saying it’s time to get the focus on the career.  Caps are really, really late bloomers.  Jupiter just went into Cap in December 2019 for 1 year.  So maybe they can get inspired to let go of the negative and see the positives in their life. We need caps now more than ever to be our advisors and mentors to counsel us on how to survive these difficult times.

Now I know you are saying to yourself that you know a few fun-loving Caps and that is true.  As James Hillman states in the Soul’s Code, on some level we sense our destiny and out of fear of this destiny and rebel.  The destiny here is to be the father, the advisor, the mentor the responsible one.  At some point, Capricorns will have to take on that load. So many Caps try to stay young and irresponsible as long as possible. On the positive side, Capricorn men are really sexy, they are the silent brooding type, think Darcy in Pride and Prejudice; a real mensch.

They can also be very sweet and responsible people and we would not have a civilization without them.  Someone has to take care of business while the rest of the people such as the Geminis, Sagittarians, Aquarians, and Pisces are out there being irresponsible, flakey, and running around dreaming of Utopia.

Uranus the sky god was married to Gaia the earth.  He was unhappy with all his children, and as soon as they were born he would push them back into the womb.  Gaia appealed to her unborn children for help. Saturn volunteered to slay the father.   When he grew up he struck his father in the groin, and took over as chief of the gods.  Saturn then was told that a child of his would dethrone him, so when he married Rhea, he swallowed his children as they were born.  At Jupiter’s birth, Rhea tricked Saturn by giving him a rock in swaddling clothes to swallow.  When grown, Jupiter forced his father to disgorge the rock along with the other five siblings.  Saturn then fled by sea to Italy, where he was welcomed ashore by Janus the king. Saturn presented Janus with a set of laws, agriculture, and the wisdom to see forward and backward.  Janus became known as a shrewd and wise leader, and in this way, Saturn brought the golden age to Italy.

 

Capricorn Traits:  Capricorns are born with an acute sense of responsibility.  They take on tasks that others would refuse.  Capricorns often get in battles with authority figures, then swallow their creativity out of fear.  When they are middle-aged, creativity flowers.  They are at their best when they are older and can help the world by bringing order and civilization.  Saturn gifts are a truly serene acceptance of reality, a compassionate recognition of one’s limits and a capacity to contain one’s difficult experiences without being torn apart by them.

A Myth for Sagittarius

The Sun moved into Sagittarius on Nov 22 and will be with us until December 21. 

Here is a Sagittarian quote for the rest of us:

“Get a Bigger Life and Stop Boring God”. – Jean Houston

Sagittarians are fun to be with because they are a playful sign. They run headfirst into new adventures dragging everyone along with them.  But living with a Sagittarius is another thing altogether. They have half-completed projects lying around the house. There is a lot of creative disorder and if you try to phone them, they have too many messages on their phone and you can’t get through.  Poor Sagittarius-- they need to learn that there are limits to how many cars they can own, how many projects they can do. How many places they can visit, and how many friends they can have.

I picture Sagittarius passed out on the couch; exhausted from all they are trying to cram into one day.  But, no one has as much fun as they do and they have a great sense of humor so they spread laughter and fun everywhere they go.  The only Sagittarians who don’t have a good time are those with a lot of Saturn aspects in their chart, and then they feel very guilty about the fact that they are not enjoying themselves.

Sagittarians hate sitting around doing nothing.  While Gemini wants to know everything,  Sagittarians want to do everything.  They love new adventures and love to travel.  Sagittarius is the sign of freedom and learning.

Sagittarius also knows what will be popular before anyone else knows it. They are trendsetters. They will know the best musical group, the best restaurants, and the latest fashions.

Sagittarians have a lot of friends--most of the time too many friends.  They can’t keep up with them all.  They perform a juggling act keeping all sorts of projects and many relationships going at one time.

To understand Sagittarius fully, we need to look at their ruler, Jupiter.  Jupiter is majestic and benevolent and plays the king to the hilt. On the other hand, he is always chasing something or other, mostly women.  What drives him is the unobtainable, the one that got away. He is afraid he’s missing something.  Sagittarians find it very hard to settle down. They usually marry late in life, and their partner is never bored but maybe a little frazzled.  Sagittarians enjoy their home, but the door has to be kept unlocked.

I’ve saved the bad news until the end.  Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius is moving into Capricorn next month on Dec 2^nd.  If there is one thing Sagittarians hate it’s the old Goat. (Think Peter Pan meets Captain Hook)  This is going to be a time when Sagittarians need to get serious.  Try to get all or at least some of your projects completed during the next year. Think of how you can start a business and make some money from your creativity.

Myth: Icarus                         

Icarus and his father Daedalus were imprisoned in the labyrinth.  Daedalus made wings so they could escape. Icarus ran around the prison wanting to leave before the wings were ready.  Finally, they were ready, and Icarus fastened them on with wax.  Daedalus warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun because the wax would melt and not to fly too close to the earth, because there wouldn’t be enough wind.  The power and wonder of flying overcame Icarus. He flew as high as he could.  It was too close to the sun.  His wings melted off, and he fell into the sea. 

Sagittarius Traits:  The earth is a prison to Sagittarius types, who want to expand beyond material bounds.   They are impatient and restless, wanting freedom.  In their exuberance, they can ignore essential facts, which do not interest them.  They need someone in their lives to temper their eagerness.  Sagittarius types want a broad view or big picture and want to see everything. They can get inflated.  They have the ability to see, understand and encompass all peoples of the world. A big disappointment or fall can lead to their transformation.

Scorpio Myth and Fairy Tale

The Sun entered Scorpio yesterday Oct 23.

It’s very easy to see when we are in the season of Scorpio. Today I had to run out and bring in my plants before they expired.  I walked to the store and felt the crunch of dead leaves under my feet and then I saw skulls hanging on the walls as part of the Halloween costumes.  Scorpio season is the time when things die.  It tells us a lot about the Scorpio archetype.  These people instinctively know that things have to be destroyed before they can be reborn. They know how to deal with the dark side.  That is why many psychotherapists and hypnotherapists have Scorpio or Pluto prominent in their charts.  I imagine when clients go to see a counselor they may try to put on their best face in an effort not to appear too insane.  But it is very hard to fool a Scorpio as they can see right through us which can be very irritating when they are your friends or family. They can help you let go of difficult patters in your life and help you transform to a healthier level

Scorpio is the strongest and most determined sign and is built for emotional endurance.  They can easily resist outside influences and are not easily swayed by other people.  They like to go their own way and make up their own minds. This tendency to stand firm makes them loyal friends but dangerous and unforgiving enemies. The most painful time in Scorpio’s life is when they realize that the urge to maintain control over outer circumstances no longer works.  Dependencies, beliefs, and superstitions built around past experiences or a desire for power must be confronted. They must let go of the past.  Elimination, regeneration, and sacrifice are the tests to help them transform. Scorpios are here for inner work, for regeneration and transformation of the Self in order for them to live out their purpose; to heal others.

Pluto the ruler of Scorpio rules death and rebirth.  Death and rebirth is the theme in their life and it can be applied to material things, to people or to events in their life.  I have a Scorpio/Pluto client who supervises tearing down old hotels and rebuilding them.  Another one buys antiques and strips them down and refinishes them.

The symbols for Scorpio show the remarkable ability of Scorpios to transform themselves.  The first symbol is the Scorpion, which means that an un-evolved Scorpio can be very dangerous and will take revenge if you cross them.  The second is the snake which shows that Scorpios are able to shed their skin and renew themselves.  The third symbol is the Phoenix who sails above all the problems in their world

Because of the complex nature of Scorpio, you get two stories.  One is about the ancient Sumerian goddess of love, sensuality, fertility, procreation, and also of war. (She sounds like Scorpio, doesn’t she?) The other is Baba Yaga, a fairy tale character from Russia and Eastern Europe.

Myth:  Inanna and Ereshkigal.  Inanna, the goddess of heaven, was very beautiful and lived on the surface of the earth.  She had a wicked sister, Ereshkigal, in the underworld, When Ereshkigal’s husband died, Inanna wishes to attend the funeral,  but she is warned not to go down to the underworld.  Inanna goes but tells her maidservant that if she is not back within three days, to send someone to get her. Inanna has to go through seven gates in the underworld.  At each gate, she has to strip something off that she is wearing.  She arrives naked in front of Ereshkigal and bows before her.  Ereshkigal kills Inanna and hangs her on a meat hook to rot.  When Inanna does not return after three days, the maidservant goes to Inanna’s husband but he says, “I can't do anything, I am not powerful enough.”  Then the servant goes to Enki who is androgynous--tough but yielding, the god of water and wisdom.  Enki takes dirt from his fingernails and makes figures, which are called the mourners, and he sends them to Ereshkigal. Everyone laughs that he is sending these itty bitty creatures to deal with the powerful Ereshkigal.  They are so small they slip into the underworld unseen. They walk past Inanna who is hanging on the wall.  They go to Ereshkigal and sit with her while she complains and mourns.  They mirror what she is feeling. They give her time and space to mourn.   After this, Ereshkigal is so pleased she offers to do them a favor.  They ask for Inanna back, and she agrees. Inanna comes to life and returns to the surface of the earth. Ereshkigal tells Inanna that she has to replace herself in the underworld and she picks her husband because he would not help her.

 

Scorpio Traits: Part of Scorpio wants to stay on the surface of things.  Scorpios can live in their heads, but their real fate is to deal with the underworld, taboo subjects in our society--the unconscious shadow material.  Their gift is to help others deal with this material, whether it is grief counseling or psychotherapy.  Scorpios understand that you must go down before you go up and that real transformation requires this journey. It is important for Scorpios to be prepared and to keep their heads when they make the journey.  They understand that we all need to go deep into ourselves and strip ourselves of our baggage--our ego, our career, and identity--for the purpose of true transformation. We must honor this powerful force that strips us. Something must die for us to be reborn. Scorpios have great depth and healing energy. The traditional masculine energy is no help in dealing with the underworld.  After they have made their own underworld journey, Scorpios can start their real healing, and can help others.  They can be firm in meting out justice.

Fairy Tale - BABA YAGA

Baba Yaga is a character in fairy tales in Russia and Eastern Europe.  She guides lost souls and is sought for her wisdom.  (Does a guiding lost soul sound familiar to you Scorpio?)

In Russian tales, Baba Yaga is portrayed as a hag who drives about in a mortar beating it with a pestle and sweeping up her tracks with a broom so that you can’t tell which way she has gone.  She lives in a log cabin that moves around on a pair of dancing chicken legs. Seeking out her aid is usually portrayed as a dangerous act.

Baba Yaga lives in a cabin deep in the forest. The fence around it is made out of bones with skulls on top of it. Baba Yaga is the Slavic version of Kali the goddess of death.  You enter the hut looking for truth, for wisdom but Baba Yaga may eat you.. She is a fearsome, wild creature. She is above all powerful, and to be feared and respected.

One of the stories of Baba Yaga is about three little children on a journey who stop at Baba Yaga’s hut.  Baba Yaga asks each of the children why they are taking the journey. The first one answers “I am taking the journey for others”.  She promptly eats him.  The second one says “I have come of my own accord”, and she eats him too. The third one says “I came on my own errand, but also because of others, but most of all because Baba Yaga is here and because of the forest and something I have forgotten and I really don’t know why I took the journey and stopped here”.  Baba Yaga looks at her for a moment and says 'You'll do,' and shows her into the hut.

Scorpio Traits: They do well living alone in their own homes. Scorpios can be fierce. They can be firm in meting out justice. They want to only work with those who realized they don’t know everything and are ready to learn

Did you ever watch a TV show called Everybody Loves Raymond? Well, l could title this article; ‘Everybody Loves Libra.’  Libras are so pleasant and friendly that they can get sickening after a while.  They know just what to say to calm down a potentially uncomfortable situation, how to decorate a home worthy of showing in Home and Gardens and if that isn’t maddening enough, they are also very attractive.

They must have a shadow side you say.  Well, if I could find it, I would be the first one to shout it out.  I would love to criticize Libra, but I can’t because they are so damn cute and understanding.  They would probably forgive me, ugh. I did say to a Libran woman one time that the shadow side of Libra is co-dependence.  She answered that relationships are supposed to be co-dependent.  How’s that for a Libra response.  In Libra’s world, it is probably true.

The archetype for Libra is the goddess of love and beautify--Aphrodite.  A lot of Libran energy goes into beauty, art, and interior design.  They are also people-pleasers, being the most sociable sign in the zodiac.  They rarely go into the corporate world but when they do they usually end up in Human Relations.

Aphrodite’s birth tells us a lot about Libran energy. When Saturn castrated Uranus, it was the forces of stability, fear, rigidity, and repression against creativity, freedom, and rebellion.  The semen from the castration fell in the ocean and Aphrodite was born sailing in on a seashell.  She was the remedy for Saturn vs. Uranus.  She represents harmony and compromise. We could use the Libran energy today because of the programming we are subject to pitting left against right in our political system.

I don’t have any Libra planets in my birth chart and the ruler of Libra, Venus, is buried under Mars.  So I desperately need Librans in my life. They tell me the best place to hang a picture in my home, what color carpet to buy and what style of clothes look best on me.  I have a Libran hairdresser and she tells me how to apply makeup and how to wear my hair.  So I need to be very careful not to pick on Librans because without them I’d be a total mess.

PARIS: - Another Myth for Libra 

On Olympus, three goddesses were fighting over which of them was the most beautiful.  Paris was living peacefully in the country with his girlfriend when Zeus summoned him to be the judge, and bestow the golden apple to the most beautiful of the goddesses.  Paris did not want to choose.  He wanted to divide the apple into three parts and give one part to each goddess, but Zeus threatened to strike him dead if he did not choose.  Hera tried to bribe Paris by offering him worldly wealth. Athena promised he would be victorious in all his battles.  Aphrodite offered the love of the most beautiful woman in the world.  Paris made the decision based on what he valued, and chose Aphrodite, who sent him to Helen, considered the most desirable woman on earth.  Under Aphrodite’s spell, they fell in love immediately, though Helen was already married.  This relationship started the Trojan War in which Paris was eventually killed.

Libran Traits:  Librans want to enjoy life and be surrounded by love and beauty.  They expect life to be fair but can be naïve. They do not want to offend anyone or make tough choices--they want to keep the peace.  Librans hate making decisions, hate putting one person over another, and believe everyone is equal. They do not believe in war and are not hero types. They also do not want the responsibility that would go with wealth.  Librans are forced into making tough decisions in their lives.  The decisions which they are forced to make bring consequences they cannot foresee.  Often, they are transformed by their decisions.
