Prince Harry, the Royal Family and Pluto in Aquarius

The pleasure of knowing astrology is to watch outer events mirror the planetary patterns in the sky.  One such event is Prince Harry railing against the British royal family. He has criticized them on Netflix and has written a memoir entitled Spare as well as the many disparaging media interviews. The planetary pattern is the upcoming Pluto transiting Aquarius.

It may be that Prince Harry is carrying the energy of Pluto in Aquarius.  The gods choose a person to play a role on the world stage.  The person may not be aware of it and may or may not be ready to play the role, or even be qualified -- but they are chosen.

 

Prince Harry’s Birth Chart and Transits

We can see how Prince Harry is playing out this role by examining his birth chart.  It shows a Capricorn ascendant, the Sun in Virgo, and the Moon in Taurus--a triple earth person.  Earth types usually don’t like to make waves.  But, in addition to his earthiness, there is a revolutionary archetype buried down deep in his psyche that you don’t see at first glance, and that is Uranus in aspect to two personal planets. . He has Mercury square Uranus, which means he can create disruptive changes with his written or spoken words.  He also has Uranus conjunct Mars, which compels him to break through barriers with potentially explosive anger.  So, because of his triple earth signs and his hidden Uranus aspects what you see is not what you get with Prince Harry. 

People who knew him previously have had a problem understanding what he has become. I have learned from my many years working with clients that most of us repress the Uranus aspects in our charts because we want to conform.  But sooner or later, if we have challenging aspects to Uranus in our birth chart, or when transiting Uranus hits a sensitive point in our birth chart, we can become rebellious, erratic, willful, and ornery.  But, the positive side of Uranus’ natal aspects and transits are that Uranus can help us to become a unique individual self.

Looking at Prince Harry’s chart, we see that Uranus is now transiting his 4^th house of the family and ancestors, and is also conjunct with his Moon, which rules the 4^th house. This is a double whammy for rebellious Uranus to the family and his origins.

 

A Myth and Fairy Tale for Uranus and Aquarius

The myth of Prometheus provides the storyline for Aquarians and those with major Uranus aspects.  He was one of the gods that lived on Olympus with his family. Prometheus rebelled against the gods and stole the fire to bring to mankind. The fire represents knowledge. The gods didn’t believe that humanity should have this knowledge, because they didn’t want mankind to be on the same level as they were. Because of that theft, the family locked him out.  

What I love most about Uranus and Aquarius types is the impulse to tell the truth, whether or not anyone wants to hear it. In Hans Christian Anderson’s fairy tale the Emperor’s New Clothes two swindlers posing as weavers play on the emperor's vanity by saying that they are making him a suit that is only visible to people who are clever and competent. Once the people heard that, they all pretended to admire his clothes.  A pauper came along and said, “The Emperor has no clothes on”.  And everyone awakened and stopped pretending.  That is the role of Aquarius/Uranus, to wake people up.  Maybe this is Prince Harry’s role to reveal what is behind the world’s infatuation with the monarchy. See the following paragraph from a recent article in the British newspaper, the Guardian.

“The monarchy relies on fiction. It is a constructed reality, in which grown-up people are asked to collude in the notion that a human is more than a human – that he or she contains something approaching the ineffable essence of Britishness. Once, this fiction rested on political and military power, supported by a direct line, it was supposed, to God. Nowadays it relies on the much frailer foundations of habit, the mysteries of Britain’s unwritten constitution, and spectacle: a kind of symbolism without the symbolised. Ceremonials such as the late queen’s funeral are not merely decorative; they are the institution’s means of securing its continuance. The monarchy is theatre, the monarchy is storytelling, and the monarchy is illusion.” Charlotte Higgins of the Guardian

 

Pluto in Aquarius

Pluto represents death, rebirth, destruction, regeneration, and radical transformation.  Aquarius rules revolution, rebellion and independence.  Aquarius is also the sign of the people; it is opposite Leo, the sign of the king--making Aquarius the anti-king sign. Even though Pluto doesn’t go into Aquarius until March 23, 2023, we started to sense this energy back in January 2021.

To understand a transit such as Pluto in Aquarius, it’s helpful to look back at the last time we experienced it to understand what this transit could manifest.  The last time that Pluto was in Aquarius was 1778 until 1798.  The French revolution started in 1789 and ended in 1799. Its motto was “liberty, equality, fraternity”, and that phrase perfectly explains the urge of Aquarius. The beginnings of the American Revolution took place in 1765 and culminated in 1791. Both revolutions had the purpose of getting rid of the monarchy.

 

Future of the British Monarchy

It’s interesting to watch the news to see if there are changes coming in the power of the British monarchy.  One of the news items that I noticed was that in Australia the nation’s central bank has stated that its new $5 bill would feature an indigenous design rather than an image of King Charles III.

When Pluto enters Aquarius on March 23, 2023, he will retrograde back to Capricorn from 6/11/2023 to 1/21/2024.  Pluto will again be in Aquarius from 1/21/2024 to 9/2/2024 when he retrogrades back into Capricorn until 11/19/2024. He finally moves into Aquarius from 11/19/2024 until January 20, 2044. So, Pluto will have a long range of time with the help of Prince Harry to transform the British Monarchy.

August 2015 Forecast

We are receiving some great photographs of Pluto from the New Horizons spacecraft.  Pluto was discovered in 1930 and since that time this underworld god has come to represent the shadow in Jungian Psychology, an aspect of the personality which the conscious ego does not identify with. Because one tends to reject or remain ignorant of the least desirable aspects of one's personality, the shadow is largely negative, instinctive and irrational and is prone to psychological projection, where we assign our shadow material onto other people.

 

Now that the photos and scientific instruments have exposed some of Pluto’s secrets, maybe our dark side won’t be totally unconscious.   I am hoping we can start to see how we project our shadow both personally and collectively.  I am now reading an insightful book entitled Madness at the Gates of the City: The Myth of American Innocence by Barry Spector.  It describes how we Americans have projected our shadow onto the other, how we need to constantly have an enemy and how this has played out in history.  He has gone above party politics and describes in depth the psychological profile of  America, and our projection process using Greek mythology, indigenous wisdom and archetypal psychology. 

 

It’s also revealing to see what event happened when we received the first photos of Pluto as this indicates how this new exposed Pluto could manifest in the world.  At the same time as this unveiling, Harper Lee published her second book Go Set The Watchman. Her first book To Kill a Mockingbird has been an American classic since it was first published in 1960.  It is required reading for school children and it depicts the hero Atticusa as a very fair southern gentlemen, a real ‘ mensch,’ whereas Go Set the Watchman,  reveals the dark side of Atticus.

 

The transits for this space shot are interesting.  Pluto is opposite the Pluto in the discovery chart of 1930 and also Uranus has returned to Aries, the sign it was in when Pluto was discovered.  Uranus has an 84/85 year cycle so it is a Uranus return from 1930.   Uranus rules discoveries and revelations and a Pluto opposition can bring deep psychological awareness.

 

The most obvious image from New Horizons is Pluto with the shape of a heart on its surface.  The last planet we would expect to show us a heart.  What does that mean?  A softer Pluto is revealing itself?

I have been fascinated by the movies that have come out lately portraying the Frankenstein myth, namely Her and Ex Machina.  Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein in 1816  when she was only 18 years old and her story has survived up to the present time. Dates to Watch:

 

Aug  1 – Venus retrogrades back into Leo.  Virgos out there only had 13 days of Venus in Virgo.  But Aphrodite (Venus) got scared of the nitpicking, fussy Virgo sign and decided to hightail back into Leo until Oct 8.  By that time she will buck up and realize that Virgos deserve love and good times also.  And don’t forget Aphrodite married Hephaestus the ruler of Virgo. (She cheated on him but that’s another story).  Venus is about relationships and in Leo it highlights relationships to creativity people, children and young people. 

 

Aug 2 – Mercury Trine Uranus.  The Mercury/Uranus trine is an excellent transit for communications with friends and with groups of people.  If 19-21 of the fiery signs figure prominently in your chart, you may expect positive news from friends or at least some very interesting conversations with them.

 

          Saturn turns direct at 28 Scorpio.  If you have wanted to start your own business or to start a business project, do it while Saturn is direct. But not tomorrow when Jupiter squares Saturn.  Look at your natal chart to see if Scorpio is in a positive house, if not wait until Saturn goes into Sagittarius on 17 September.

 

Aug 3 – Jupiter Square Saturn at 28 Leo/Scorpio.   These two ancient gods really don’t like each other; they had a battle that lasted centuries.  Jupiter is all about belief, optimism and expansion, while Saturn rules restrictions, limits and reality.  When they are in a harmonious aspect, this can be a very good business aspect since optimism is working with practicality.  Jupiter is Vision and Saturn is Realism.  But in a square they are circling each other with the gloves off.  If you have personal planets (Sun, moon, Mercury, Venus, or Mars) or the ascendant at this degree look for economic and educational challenges.

 

Aug 4 – Venus Conjunct Jupiter at 21 Leo.    This is a beautiful aspect and you can see it in the night sky.  The ancients and some modern curmudgeons state that if you can’t see a planet, it has no influence on us.  That leaves out Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.  Well everyone will be happy with this aspect.  We can certainly see them both glowing in the sky.

 

Find 20 to 23 degrees of Leo in your natal chart.  This is the house that will bring you love and happiness.  Take advantage of this aspect and have a party or gather with friends. Saturn is squaring this aspect so there may be a gloomy Capricorn at the party, ignore him.

 

 Because Venus turned retrograde last month on the 25^th, we get three of these conjunctions. The first one was on Jul 1 and we will have the third and last on October 25. That will be at 15 Virgo and will be a powerful one because of Mars joining both of them in Virgo and Pluto trining the conjunction.   This is a dynamic positive aspect for love (Venus), good fortune (Jupiter), wealth (Pluto) and the chutzpah (Mars) to make it happen.

 

Aug 5 – Venus Square Saturn at 28 Leo/Scorpio. I’m trying to say something positive about this aspect, but can’t.  Wait for a day or two before making any decision regarding your finances or relationships.  You may feel stymied if you have personal planets or the ascendant to 28 Leo, Aquarius, Taurus or Scorpio.

 

Aug 6 – Mercury Conjunct Venus at 28 Leo.  This will help you in the arts and will help make your speech and your writing more amenable to others. You may receive an important email from a friend or old lover.  Especially so if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 28 Leo or Aquarius.

 

          Mercury square Saturn at 28 Leo/Scorpio. You are very sarcastic today and you could alienate people.  Hold your tongue.

 

Aug 7 – Mercury conjunct Jupiter at 29 Leo.  Both these planets are going to enter Virgo soon.  But while in Leo, they want to have one last fling by spending money and bragging about how successful and happy they are.  It won’t last, button your lip.

 

          Mercury enters Virgo.  Mercury is right at home in Virgo.  He likes to spend his time in service to others and improving the work environment.  He is a total workaholic and may forget to go home.

 

Aug 8 – Mars enters Leo until Sep 24.  Mars loves the fire signs since he rules another fire sign, Aries. Here he pushes forward and wants to do his own thing and really doesn’t want anyone to get in his way.  He can become a bit obnoxious, but he gets a lot down. The Leo house in your natal chart will see a lot of activity during this period.

 

August 11: Jupiter enters Virgo until September 2016.  Virgos have a potential to get rich during this period.  I know Virgos like to volunteer their time and they never charge enough for what they are worth, but Jupiter will increase their income.  The house of Virgo in your natal chart will show the area of benefits and good luck.  

 

August 12 – Mercury opposes Neptune at 8 Virgo Pisces.  You can really be confused on this one, no its not age, it’s Neptune.  Be discriminating.  You could fall for a big scam but It only lasts one day.

 

Aug 13 – Sun Trine Uranus at 20 Leo Aries.  This is a very happy and fortunate aspect.  Especially if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 20 degrees of Aries, Leo, or Sagittarius.  This will give you the energy to express your creativity.

 

August 14 – New Moon at 22 Leo.  Find the Leo house in your natal chart.  This is where your creativity will shine.  A good time to start new projects that express your individuality.

 

Aug 15 – Sun conjunct Venus at 22 Leo.  A happy aspect, you will want to contact friends and family and party today, especially if you have 22 Leo prominent in your chart.

 

          Mercury Trine Pluto at 12 Virgo.  A good day for research and for some deep soul searching and also important communications.

 

August 19 -  Venus trine Uranus at 20.16 Leo/Aries.  This is a happy transit, but this time you want to gather with others to save the world -- climate change anyone?

 

Aug 21 – Sun square Saturn at 28 Leo/Scorpio.   Our light is a little dampened with this aspect.  So after all the partying, its time to pay the bills.

 

Aug 23 - The Sun enters Virgo until Sep 23.  Happy Birthday Virgo.

 

Aug 29 – Full Moon at 6 Pisces/Virgo.  The Sun is conjunct Jupiter in Virgo, the Moon is conjunct Neptune retrograde in Pisces and both conjunctions are square Saturn in Scorpio. A complicated Full Moon. It can bring the urge to perform a service, that can be more burdensome that you thought and also not realistic. Look for two houses in your natal chart for this one, Virgo and Pisces.

 

OUTER PLANET TRANSITS:

 

JUPITER will move into Virgo this month until September 2016. This month Jupiter will move from 27 degrees of Leo to 4 Virgo.  Jupiter is about growth and expansion especially in travel and education and also in the area of your life ruled by the house in your natal chart that holds 27 degrees of Leo to 4 Virgo.

 

SATURN is in Sagittarius until Dec 2018. This month he has moved back into Scorpio where he will stay until Sep 19, 2015.  He will stay at 28 degrees of Scorpio this month.  If you have the ascendant or any personal planets at 28 degrees of Scorpio or Taurus in your natal chart, you may be in store for some hard lessons around the issues ruled by the planet and the house the planet is in or rules.  While Saturn is in Scorpio, Saturn is asking about your sexual relationships and the ways you can transform yourself

 

URANUS is in Aries until 2018.  This month Uranus is moving retrograde and will stay at 20 degrees of Aries.  We feel a need for freedom and we want to make some radical changes in our life.  I believe in “cooperating with the inevitable”.  If you have Uranus in a challenging aspect to your ascendant or personal planets,  go on a long vacation, move, or make some major changes in your life.

 

NEPTUNE (creativity, sensitivity, escapism, dreams) is in Pisces until 2026.  He is moving retrograde this month and will move from 9 to 8 degrees of Pisces.   A lack of focus, a sense of drifting or an inability to see a betrayal or disappointment until it's too late can be experienced by those of you with the Sun or Personal Planets at  9 or 9 degrees of Pisces or Virgo. For the enlightened out there, Neptune can also bring artistic, musical, creative expression, increased dreams and spiritual insights. Watch for some really inspired films to come out during the time Neptune is in Pisces.

 

PLUTO is in Capricorn until 2023.  This month Pluto is moving retrograde until September 25 and this month will stay at 13  degrees of Capricorn.  Everyone is feeling the urge to purge and to find his or her truth.  Profound changes will be felt especially by those with Sun, ascendant or personal planets at 13 degrees of Capricorn or Cancer.

December 2014 Forecast

Will the digital age usher in the individual liberation and political freedoms that the internet is uniquely capable of unleashing? Or will it bring about a system of omnipresent monitoring and control, beyond the dreams of even the greatest tyrants of the past? Right now either path is possible. This month we will experience the 6th Uranus Square Pluto in a series of seven. The last one will be March 17, 2015. Using a 5 degree orb, we have been squeezed in this vice since 2010 and we won't be free of this dynamic until 2016. This square has been especially difficult for those of you with personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars) and especially if you have the ascendant at 6 to 17 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn. Uranus is the planet of liberation and Pluto the planet of covert operations, secrets, and control on a large scale.

A book I am reading entitled, No Place to Hide: Edward Snowden, The NSA and the U.S. Surveillance State by Glenn Greenwald describes the Uranus/Pluto standoff. As you would expect Snowden has the Uranus (Prometheus) signature in his natal chart. I was surprised to read that he grew up reading Greek Mythology and was influenced by Joseph Campbell's Hero with a Thousand Faces. The primary lesson he took away from Cambell's book was that “It is we who infuse life with meaning through our actions and the stories we create with them...... I don't want to be a person who remains afraid to act in defense of my principles.” Pluto is in Capricorn the sign of corporations and the largest technological companies, such as Google, Yahoo, Facebook, Microsoft and Verizon have cooperated with NSA to hand over billions of pieces of personal data they have on people world wide including the US. (Here's a tip: NSA has the ability to remotely turn your cell phone into a listening device.) In Greenwald's book he describes a NSA program called Xkeystroke that allows an operator to track all our emails, chats and internet browsing by doing a simple online search. Most of the data mining results are not used to find terrorists, but for economic or political advantage. The events in this book are portrayed in a film that just came out called Citizen Four.

Other events this month are: Uranus turning direct, Saturn entering Sagittarius and Jupiter turning retrograde. Planets changing signs and direction will make for a very upsetting month. This month will be challenging for those of you with personal planets or the ascendant at 10 to 14 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn. Not only is Uranus/Pluto doing their square dance at those degrees, but Venus (relationships) and Mercury (mental processes) are hitting the same degrees this month.

Dates to Watch:

Dec 4 – Venus Trine Jupiter. You may receive a gift or a special thank you in return for a favor that you did for a friend in the recent past. Sun Trine Uranus. A day for entertainment and fun. Maybe a party or an invitation to a wedding or some unexpected guests.

    Mars enters Aquarius until Jan 12, 2015. Because Aquarius believes in networking and open sources of information and in innovations, all modes of communication are energized and electrified when Mars moves through this sign. Look to the house in your natal chart that contains Aquarius. This area of your life will become busy.

Dec 5 – Venus Trine Uranus. A good day to visit a museum, art gallery and music hall with some agreeable companions.

Dec 6 – Full Moon at 14 Gemini. Gemini can see both sides to every issue. During this full moon you may have trouble making up your mind about something. People begin to feel restless with a Full Moon in this sign

Dec 8 – Sun Conjunct Mercury. This will make you more mentally active. A good time to study or write.

    Jupiter stations retrograde at 22 Leo until April 8, 2015. Retrogrades are time-out periods. Jupiter is in Leo which rules the entertainment industry, recreational activities and things that have to do with children. Also, travel can be restricted during this period. Jupiter is asking us to look within for answers.

Dec 10 – Venus in Capricorn until January 3, 2015. Venus in the practical sign of Capricorn means that you still love to shop, but now are looking for a good deal. Venus in Capricorn rules arranged marriages rather than a love match.

Dec 12 – Mercury Trine Jupiter. This is a good day to make investments that can turn out to be very favorable. Also for intellectual enjoyment of all kinds.

Dec 14 – Sun Trine Jupiter. Another good day for financial opportunities and education.

Dec 15 – Uranus Square Pluto at 12 degrees of Aries and Capricorn. This is the biggie. Expect the unexpected and some very tough decisions especially if you have personal planets and especially the ascendant at 12 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn.

Dec 16 – Mercury in Capricorn until January 4, 2015. A time to get serious, but remember, Capricorn rules satire and dry humor that can lighten up this period.

Dec 20 – Venus Square Uranus at 12 degrees of Capricorn and Aries. This is not favorable for relationships with friends and relatives. Someone is too quirky, is it you?

    Venus Conjunct Pluto at 12 Capricorn. This adds to the discord with friends and family. Someone is too obsessive and controlling. That can't be you!

Dec 21 – New Moon at 0 Capricorn. The beginning of the Capricorn period has a New Moon right at the beginning of the sign. That emphasizes the practical, – a time for material ambition and an awareness of work and duty.

     Sun enters Capricorn until January 20, 2015. The Capricorn period is super-charged because of the New Moon and the fact that the same day has Uranus turning direct.

     Uranus turns direct at 12 degrees of Aries. Brace Yourself! Uranus may get the upper hand on Pluto now that he is going direct. Well, not really, no one gets an upper hand on Pluto. But maybe the playing field will be more even. If you have personal planets or the ascendant at 12 degrees of Aries, or Libra, expect some exciting events happening around you. You can expect big changes or breakthroughs in your personal life and on a global scale. Uranus is the planet of surprises. Aries says me first. We may see some uprisings and protests around the world

Dec 23 – Saturn enters Sagittarius until June 16, 2015 when it backs into Scorpio until Sep 19, 2015 and then enters Sagittarius until December 21, 2017. It is very important when Saturn changes signs. It stays in each sign 2 ½ years. Saturn is the Reality principle and in Sagittarius, he is asking us to get real about our plans for the future While Saturn is in Sagittarius, both Geminis and Sagittarians will finally get serious. I mean, come on, stop playing around and get a job! 

Dec 24 – Mercury Square Uranus. News comes in that you may not like. Try to keep calm. Ideas are swirling around in your head. Some are a little nutty.

Dec 25 – Mercury conjunct Pluto at 12 Capricorn. You can get a little paranoid on this one. You suspect everyone!

OUTER PLANET TRANSITS:

JUPITER is in Leo until August 2015. This month Jupiter will turn retrograde on the 8th and will move from 22 Leo to 21 Leo. Jupiter is about growth and expansion. Look to the house in your natal chart that holds 21 to 22 degrees of Leo. This is the area of life that will expand this month: more projects, more people, more fun.

SATURN is in Scorpio until Dec 24, 2014. This month Saturn moves from 27 degrees of Scorpio to 0 degrees of Sagittarius. If you have the ascendant or any personal planets at 27 to 29 degrees of Scorpio or Taurus or at 0 degrees of Sagittarius or Gemini in your natal chart, you may be in store for some hard lessons around the issues ruled by the planet and the house the planet is in or rules. While Saturn is in Scorpio he may be asking you to take on more responsibility for how you control your rage and psychological expression. As he moves into Sagittarius, Saturn is asking about your plans for the future.

URANUS is in Aries until 2018.  This month Uranus is retrograde until the 21st and will stay at 12 degrees of Aries all month. September 2014 Forecast

I read two great books this month, one wastitled The Most Dangerous Book: The Battle for James Joyce's Ulysses by Kevin Birmingham. Joyce was so taken over by his daimon, that he spent every day and night writing Ulysses while he was going blind with a blanket over his shoulders from the cold. His daimon became a power attractor and people in Paris, England and the U.S. were supporting him before they had even met him or read Ulysses. One guy risked imprisonment to smuggle copies from the Canadian border. Ezra Pound took time away from his own writing to help Joyce. It reads like a thriller and is a fascinating story even if you haven't read Ulysses. 

The other book I spent the last few months reading is The Dream of the Cosmos: A Quest For The Soul by Anne Baring. She is in her 80's and decided to write a book detailing how we got ourselves and our world into the real mess we see today , (hint : religion and science did us in) and how to get out of this it. It took her 20 years to write the book. She is a Jungian analyst living in England. She has put the entire text on the internet. But it is best to buy it because you will want to underline and keep it. The full text is here

The sad news last month is the death of Robin Williams. Two things struck me from looking at his chart. One is that transiting Saturn was on his ascendant.  Saturn is the senex and Williams was definitely a Puer. Saturn on the ascendant was bringing an opportunity to be mature and deal with the responsibility of his illness. The danger of success, is that it keeps us stuck in old behaviors. He had a tight Uranus/Mars conjunction which would lead to his being manic and also brilliant. The main feature of his chart is triple water; that his Sun is in Cancer, the Moon is in Pisces and he has Scorpio rising. There is no air in the chart at all. Air gives you a quality of objectivity. You can stand back and look at your problems and figure out how to solve them. Each element has a primary emotion. With water, the emotion is sadness. And with being a triple water with no air, it would be hard to understand his suffering and to figure out ways to work with it. Read Glenn Perry on Williams' chart.

    Mars enters Sagittarius until Oct 26. You can become very enthusiastic and buoyant with Mars in this sign. Decisions are made spontaneously. Its a very good place for sports. 

Sep 14 – Venus trine Pluto. Romance and courtship. (Does anyone court anymore?, I must be reading too much Jane Austen.) A good time to deepen your relationships. 

Sep 21 – Mars Square Neptune. You think you are on the right track and know where you are going and what you are doing, but guess what? You are totally deluded. Go back to Go and start over. 

Sep 22 – Pluto turns direct at 11 degrees of Capricorn. If you have any personal planets or the ascendant at 11 degrees of Capricorn or Cancer, Pluto can drag you down to the underworld to face your shadow and hopefully drag you back up renewed. 

Sun enters Libra until Oct 23. This is a good time to get married, or form any kind of partnership, especially if it has to do with the arts. 

Sep 24 – New Moon at 1 Libra. The start of a new monthly cycle. During the next two weeks we will be motivated to work on our relationships with others. 

Sep 25 - Jupiter trine Uranus. Best day of the month. A lot of opportunities could present themselves to you today. Especially if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 14 degrees of Leo or Aries.

Sep 27 – Mercury enters Scorpio until Oct 10. Now we start to get a little paranoid. Use this energy to do research instead of trying to figure out who they are talking about at the water cooler. 

Sep 29 – Venus enters Libra until Oct 23. Venus is in her home sign and is very happy. A good time for lovey-dovey, mushy, kissy face stuff if you can stand it. 

OUTER PLANET TRANSITS:

July 2014 Forecast

I just read another great book this month: Travels with Epicurus: A journey to a Greek Island in Search of a Fulfilled Life by Daniel Klein. I love authors who take the wisdom from the ancient and not so ancient philosophers and write about their ideas in an accessible manner. This is a great book to read if you are over 65 and searching for what you want to do next.

Also, here is a link to a two part essay on Tony Blair and George Bush written by Barry Goddard an astrologer in London. He does a great job of interpreting their charts and does it by using the basic ten planets and 12 houses. A good read for those of you studying how to read birth charts.

July is one of the best months of the year. So, no matter how hot July gets, you will fee a breath of fresh air due to Jupiter moving into Leo and Mars moving into Scorpio both are leaving that nasty square we have been having. The Leos out there will be getting a year long boost from Jupiter starting on Jul 16 and you Scorpios will get a breather on Jul 20 even though you are not out of the woods yet until the end of the year.

July 1 – Mercury moves direct at 24 Gemini. Mercury has been retrograde since Jun 7. Don't know how many problems you had with electronics, mechanics, etc. Some retrogrades seem worst then other. Mercury retrograde messes up my internal circuits somehow and I usually come down with some strange malady.

Jul 4 – Sun Opposite Pluto. This may bring in more fireworks that you bargained for today. But it is the last Sun Opposite Pluto for a year.

Jul 8 – Sun Square Uranus and Trine Saturn This is a mixed day. Uranus can cause things to unravel and create mishaps, but Saturn can add some stability. You may experience both in different areas of your life.

Jul 12 – Full Moon at 20 Capricorn. A day to start winding things down to get ready for the next Moon cycle that starts on July 26. A good day to become aware of your property and responsibilities. What do you need to do in these areas.

Jul 13 – Mercury enters Cancer until Jul 31. Mercury here thinks of family and can get emotional. There may be news about food, GMO's, vs organic and about obesity. Venus Trine Mars. A good day for romance and for creativity.

Jul 16 – Jupiter enters Leo until Aug 12, 2015. In Leo, Jupiter will expand all the areas of Leo, creativity, play, entertainment and children. Look at the house in your birth chart that contains Leo, this is the area that will bring you good luck.

Jul 18 – Venus in Cancer until Aug 12. Your affections become gentler and softer.

Jul 19 – Mercury Trine Neptune. Very good for writers or for day dreamers. Sun Square Mars. Try to stay cool. This is an angry aspect, try some hard physical work in the garden.

Jul 20 – Saturn turns direct at 16 Scorpio. Saturn has been retrograde for four months. Now you can bring out your career plans you have been stewing over since last March and get to work on that resume. Scorpios may still be in a slowdown, but this direct motion will help you move forward again. Scorpios won't be free of this cranky old man entirely until Saturn enters Sagittarius, the fat happy man, in December 2014.

Jul 21 – Uranus turns retrograde at 16 Aries until Dec 22, 2014. Uranus creates a strong urge to change. Until December, we can stop crashing and burning and settle down a while. J

ul 22 – Mercury opposite Pluto. A good day to do some research. Get on Ancestry.com and find out why your mother's side of the family is so messed up. Sun enters Leo until Aug 23. For the next four months we are urged to have fun, be creative and warm and bring out your childlike enthusiasm.

Jul 24 – Sun conjunct Jupiter. This only occurs once a year and brings optimism and enthusiasm. Mercury square Uranus. Your thinking is a little squirrely today. You can become obstinate and a little nuts. Mercury trine Saturn. Saturn to the rescue, somewhere in your addled brain you will get in touch with reality today.

Jul 25 – Mars enters Scorpio until Sep 13, 2014. Mars has spent the last two years in Libra, going back and forth triggering the T square. Scorpio is a better sign for Mars. Mars is the planet of war and he loves becoming more intense, more jealous, and more manipulative here than in any other sign.

Jul 26 – New Moon at 3 Leo. This New Moon is smack dab on Jupiter. That makes this a very lucky new moon. You can shine this entire month.

Jul 28 – Venus opposite Pluto. Some intense feelings can erupt on this one.

June 2014 Forecast

The April eclipses last month fell in my third house of communications; reading, teaching, learning, books, magazines, etc. I have a packed (4 planets) in the 3rd house in my natal chart which means I never live more than a few blocks from a public library and the UPS driver delivering books from Amazon knows me as an intimate friend. The eclipse hit two of the planets in my third house and all sorts of information has been coming it and some really great books as well. All of the books have the same theme which is about how the world really works beyond the limited scientific and rational explanations that are usually offered.

Here are some books that I have been reading lately that account for the unexplainable aspects of our reality and bring magic and re-enchantment to it.

Living with a Wild God by Barbara Ehrenreich

You may know her as a feminist, a writer on sustainability (Nickel and Dimed) and as a trained scientist with a Ph.D. in Biology. This book starts with her teenage atheism resulting from her overly rationalistic and solipsistic worldview, as well as her mystical experiences that started at age 13 and then proceeds to show how she became a caring loving person that resulted in her many wonderful books. This is also the best book I have read so far that takes the middle way between the religious and the atheistic world views. Just about every paragraph contains wit or laugh out-loud humor.

Authors of the Impossible by Jeffrey Kripal

He writes extensively about four lesser known but significant writers of the paranormal and anomalous phenomena starting from the late 19th century—psychical researcher Frederic Myers, writer and humorist, Charles Fort, astronomer, computer scientist, and ufologist Jacques Vallee, and philosopher and sociologist Bertrand Méheust. These writers were brave enough to give legitimacy to a taboo subject that was at best relegated to science fiction or just usually considered belonging to the looney bin. Not your usual late night radio claptrap. This will give you real food for thought.

The Secret Life of Puppets by Victoria Nelson

Nelson surveys how popular culture and art and especially mass culture of puppets, horror-fantasy literature, and cyborgs: from the works of Kleist, Poe, Musil, and Lovecraft to Philip K. Dick and virtual reality simulations are a result of our forcing into unconsciousness a religious feeling that we as contemporary rationalists don’t want to admit we have. This is no light read, but is starting to be considered a classic in the field of literary and cultural criticism. Highly recommended.

The Trickster and the Paranormal by George P. Hansen

A dense and scholarly 500 page book, but well worth it if you want to research the trickster archetype in a complete and unique interdisciplinary way. He emphasizes how the paranormal is almost always involved. It includes many references to the works of anthropologists, literary critics, parapsychologists, psychologists and many more. This book will give you an incredibly new understanding of how this archetype works. I am knee deep in these books and loving it.

Jun 8 – Venus trine Pluto. Pleasure and romance. This is a good aspect for making a new friend or starting an intimate relationship.

Jun 9 – Neptune Turns Retrograde at 7 degrees of Pisces until Nov 16, 2014. Neptune is considered the higher vibration of Venus. It symbolizes sensitivity and spiritual strength but also escapist tendencies. During the period of the retrograde, you may feel indecisive, sentimental, careless and scattered. I know, you feel that way all the time! Today, Neptune is very strong in your chart if you have personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars) or the Ascendant at 5 to 8 degrees of Pisces or Virgo. Expect to be flying in outer space for a few days.

Jun 13 – Venus Opposite Saturn at 17 degrees of Taurus/Scorpio. You feel really sorry for yourself today, because you are all alone and no one loves you. Especially weepy day if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 15 to 18 degrees of Taurus or Scorpio. Full Moon at 22 Sagittarius. This is a culmination of what you have been planning all month. Sadge is a happy sign and you will feel exuberant today and nothing can hold you back. This full moon plus the Venus Opposite Saturn could make you reach for the lithium.

Jun 14 – Mars Square Pluto at 12 degrees of Libra/Capricorn. Angry placement. You wonder what aspect shooters have when they go on a rampage. Well this is it. Watch out if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 11 to 13 degrees of Libra/Capricorn.

Jun 17 – Mercury enters Gemini until July 13. Mercury has retrograded back into Gemini and he is very happy here because that is the sign he rules. We all get really obsessive about sending messages out on facebook.

Jun 19 – Sun conjunct Mercury at 28 Gemini. If you have personal planets or the ascendant here, you are streaming some important information from the universal computer and talking to everyone around you as fast as it comes in.

Jun 21- Sun enters Cancer until July 22. This is the time of family and home barbeques. (No I don’t mean you should barbeque the family).

Jun 23 – Venus enters Gemini until Jul 18. Venus in Gemini is a big flirt, she/he is not serious about a relationship now. Anyone you meet on Harmony.com may be a con man, married or a space cadet or just not available.

Jun 25 – Mars opposite Uranus at 15 degrees of Libra/Aries. Another angry aspect. But on this one you get over it as fast and it comes on. Especially hotheaded if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 15 degrees of Libra or Aries.

Jun 27 – New Moon at 5 Cancer. This is the beginning of the dog days of summer. You feel energized to start something new.

Jun 29 – Sun trine Neptune. Go on vacation! Venus Square Neptune. While you are on vacation, don’t fall in love and watch your belongings.

May 2014 Forecast

In April, I watched Uranus, the awakener shining a spot light on our dark dirty little secrets ruled by Pluto. For example, Cliven Bundy the Nevada rancher who spewed out racist comments on TV. Then Donald Sterling, the Los Angeles Clipper’s basketball team owner made racist comments that were recorded by his girlfriend.  (what is her deal?)

But the major unmasking that Uranus has performed regards the economic inequality in the US via the publication of the book, Capital in the 21^st century by French economist Thomas Piketty.  This book is 700 pages long and cost $40.00 and no one expected that anyone would read it except other economists.  Then regular people started buying the book.  Amazon ran out of inventory and Harvard University Press had to rush to print a lot more copies. It is now a best seller.  Now we all knew about the economic inequality in this country, but for some reason this book caused an awakening or maybe it was because the ideas were presented at the right time during the Uranus/Pluto Square.

Another big dark dirty secret being revealed is the fact that the US is no longer a democracy but an oligarchy.  Recent Supreme Court decisions have allowed unlimited spending by individuals and corporations for political campaigns so all of our politicians can be bought and paid for.  The National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 makes it legal to incarcerate US citizens without any recourse to any form of judicial process. This act is similar to the Reichstag Fire Decree in 1933 Germany.  Again, Uranus is awakening the people in the form of an organization called PANDA (People Against the NDAA).  City and state governments are joining in to ban the NDAA being enforced in their municipalities.

The grand cross we had last month is weakening this month.  Pluto is still at 13 degrees of Capricorn, but Jupiter has moved on and so has Mars.  Uranus is at 14, so we still have the square this month.  Those of you with personal planets (Sun, moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars or the ascendant) at 13 and 14 degrees of Capricorn, Cancer, Libra or Aries are still in the barrel.

This month Venus hits the planets in the Grand Cross causing relationship hurdles, challenges and maybe, just maybe breakthroughs.  See May 11, May 14, May 15 and May 18.

We have just experienced a Solar Eclipse on April 29 at 8 degrees of Taurus.  The reverberations of this eclipse will be strongly felt this month and the echoes for many more months.  Check the eclipse article on my blog to find how this eclipse will affect your chart.

May 2 – Mercury Opposite Saturn.  Travel may not be profitable right now.  Be careful what you put into writing.

          Venus enters Aries until May 28.  Venus is really “hot stuff” in Aries.  You could be too impulsive and may try to push your loved ones in directions they don’t want to go.  Cool it, if you can.

May 3 – Sun trine Pluto.  You could receive some real good advice today from a relative or business partner.

May 7 – Mercury enters Gemini until May 29.  Mercury loves being in this sign.  A lot of communications via email and social networking will be happening in this period.

May 10 – Sun Opposite Saturn at 19 Taurus/Scorpio. You may have to work hard in your home and in your office.  There are restrictions and responsibilities everywhere so the best thing to do is keep your head down and work.  This day will especially be a downer if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 17 to 21 of Taurus or Scorpio.

May 11 – Venus Opposite Mars at 9 Aries/Libra. You are warm-hearted and easy going, but today you can be taken advantage of by a strong willed person.  Avoid hasty actions in love and in finance.  You will feel especially raunchy if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 7 to11 degrees of Aries or Libra.

          Mercury Square Neptune at 7 Gemini/Pisces. You really don’t want to face the real world today.  You want to daydream and your mind is a little fuzzy anyway so it’s best not to tackle anything difficult.  I have this aspect in my natal chart so I feel this way all the time.  You will too if you have any personal planets or the ascendant at 5 to9 degrees of Gemini or Pisces.

May 12 – Mercury trine Mars.  Mars is giving energy to your mind.  You may feel vivacious and interested in writing, traveling and making new friends.

May 14 – Full Moon at 23 Scorpio at 3:16 PM.  Matters begun on the Solar Eclipse on April 29, culminate today.  A full moon in Scorpio can bring out  passions, aggressions and an increase in intensity all focused on our emotions. 

          Venus Square Pluto at 14 Aries/Pluto.  This could bring about some embarrassing situations with loved ones.  You may be too harsh and judgmental with others.

May 15 – Venus Conjunct Uranus at 14 Aries. We can really blab too much about our friends and loved ones.  The gossip may come back to bite you.  Be discreet.  Watch out for outrageous romantic actions on your part especially if you have personal planets at 12 to 16 degrees of Aries or Libra.

May 18 – Venus Square Jupiter.  Don’t make any personal relationship decisions today.  You are too emotional.  Another warning about today is watch your wallet and don’t spend too much.

May 19 – Mars turns direct at 9 Libra.  A lot of us have be frustrated at not being able to get anything done or to move forward.  The direction motion of Mars will help a lot.

May 20 – Sun enters Gemini until June 21. We feel freer than we did when the Sun was in Taurus.  This is a good time to write and read and join a book club.

May 24 – Jupiter Trine Saturn. If you are thinking of starting a business, today is the day to do it.  You would have a Jupiter Saturn trine in the birth chart of the business and that means there would be balanced growth.  This aspect is very good for Stabilizing your financial affairs.

May 28 – New Moon at 7 Gemini at 2:40 PM.  For the next month, we will feel restless and want to travel or even move.  We get bored with the status quo.  Make some changes.

          Sun Square Neptune at 7 Gemini/Pisces.  You have exaggerated hopes and  and inflated ideas about your life.  You could be deceived by others because you are so trusting and you believe everything is for the best. (Well, it ain’t)

          Venus enters Taurus until June 23.  Venus loves being in Taurus.  A good time to go to the spa, get a massage.

May 29 – Mercury enters Cancer until Jun 17 when he backs up into Gemini again; he goes back into Cancer on the 13^th of July and then finally enters Leo on August 1^st.  The reason for this back and forth movement of Mercury is because Mercury is retrograde from June 7 to July 1.

May 31 – Sun Trine Mars.  You have plenty of energy today to take on new projects

OUTER PLANET TRANSITS 

JUPITER is in Cancer until July 2014. This month Jupiter will move from 15 to 20.  Jupiter is about growth and expansion. Look to the house in your natal chart that holds 15 to 20 degrees of Cancer or Capricorn. This is the area of your life that will experience this expansion.

SATURN is in Scorpio until Dec 24, 2014. April 2014 Forecast

This is the month that the astrologers have been yammering about for a year -- definitely the worst month of the year if not in decades.  The reason is that the Cardinal square we have been watching since 2008 between Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn is exact this month for the 5^th time. Also Jupiter is moving into Cancer to form a grand  square and Mars is backing up in Libra to form a grand cardinal cross.  This is not pretty!  This configuration will be at 13 degrees of the above signs and will be exact on April 22.

Now, contrary to popular opinion, astrology can’t predict anything.  It can recognize patterns and trends and look at similar aspects in the past and make an educated guess.  (For comparing aspects in history read Cosmos and Psyche by Rick Tarnas.)

I will show you why it is very difficult to predict what this Grand Cross will bring.  Let’s look at this grand cross as a gathering of not very friendly planetary archetypes.

Uranus arrives at the gathering with a torch.  He has just stolen fire from the gods and is running to mankind with the flame.   He wants to bring us illumination and higher consciousness.

Pluto sneaks in wearing a black hoodie so that we can’t see his face.  He is covert -- the illuminati -- the plutocrats -- the back ops in the CIA and NSA.  He wants power and control over us.

Now here comes Jupiter -- a big fat happy guy.   He comes waddling in with a big smile on his face; a bottle of booze in one hand and a box of donuts in the other.  He wants to party and will excite all of us into a manic frenzy.

Finally, Mars comes swaggering in with boxing gloves on ready for a fight.

Next we have to consider the signs these planets are in.  How are their essential natures being modified by the signs?   Uranus is in Aries, the Sign of Mars --  this makes Prometheus urgent and forceful.  Mars is in Libra, the sign of love.  He’s not sure if he wants to fight or make love.  He is also retrograde which weakens him.  He has his gloves on, but can’t throw a punch.

Jupiter is in Cancer the sign of the home, food and comfort.  He just wants to eat and go home.

Pluto is in the sign of Saturn ruling big corporations and big government.  He is very happy here. He is using his power to maintain the status quo. 

So Uranus and Pluto are strong and Jupiter and Mars are weak.  Do you see why I hesitate to make a prediction with such a complex aspect as a grand cross?  So you figure it out!  Also if you have this cross in your natal chart you need to consider the houses they fall into and also the houses they rule.

Also this month we have two eclipses intensifying this energy.  The Lunar eclipse is on April 15 at 25 Libra and the Solar Eclipse is on April 29 at 9 Taurus.

My educated guess about this grand cross is that it will produce military actions, but because Mars is weak it may bring treaties, I see powerful protest movements, extreme weather conditions and earthquakes.  Earthquakes are more numerous in Aries and also during eclipses.

The last 5 to 6 years were only a prelude to the next few years when we will feel our world turn upside down.  This may not sort itself out until 2019.  But this year will bring the conflicting energies out in the open.

The Sun and Mars are known as triggers to longer term aspects. In this case, they can bring in an event that reflects the Grand Cross energy.   At the beginning of this month, the Sun will trigger this Grand Cross and then Mars will become a part of the Cross and triggers Pluto, Uranus and Jupiter.  And to add to this intense month, Pluto is turning retrograde on Apr 14 -- and guess where?  You’re right at 13 Capricorn.

We should look to see which countries have major personal planets at 13 degrees of cardinal signs.   The US has 13 degrees Sun, Russia’s Mars is at 13 Capricorn and China’s Mercury is a 13 Libra.  These three countries are tied in to this Grand Cross.  They will experience major conflicts and challenges.

If you have any personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars or the Ascendant between 5 and 15 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn, stay loose and be prepared for change.  My clients have a cheat sheet showing the location of their personal planets and the ascendant.  If you don’t know if you have any personal planets or the ascendant at these degrees, call your friendly neighborhood astrologer and find out.

In other news, what happened to Malaysian Flight 370?  When I did a chart for the moment when the plane took off, which would be the birth chart of the flight, Neptune was very prominent.  This could mean that the plane ended in water, but another meaning of Neptune is secrecy, mystery and deception.  Things are not as they appear.  Because it is Neptune, I’m not even going to try to speculate.

Dates to Watch:

Apr 1 – Sun Square Jupiter.  (Trigger to the Grand Cross) Try too use self control today.  Your tendency is to blow a situation up to extremes.

April 2 – Sun Conjunct Uranus.  (Trigger to the Grand Cross) Go over your work and ideas with a a sharp eye.  You have no patience today and may be reckless.

          Mercury Trine Saturn.  A good day for decisions regarding finance.  This aspect will help you be more realistic.  Get your taxes done now!

Apr 3 – Sun Square Pluto. (Trigger to the Grand Cross)   Other people seem to be in direct conflict with you.  Demand as little as possible, try to cooperate.

Apr 5 – Venus enters Pisces until May 2.  Aphrodite is trying to bring in peace, love and harmony this month..  While she is in Pisces, she will conjunct Neptune and trine Jupiter and Saturn. but I’m afraid she is outranked by the scary guys in the Grand cross.

Apr 7 – Mercury enters Aries until April 23.  Now Mercury gets into the act sending all sorts of messages regarding the conflicts in the grand cross.  Mercury loves to be in Aries, a fire sign.  He blows a lot of hot air here.

April 8 – Sun opposite Mars. (Trigger to the Grand Cross).  Quarrels break out.  What you are trying to accomplish is blocked.

Apr 11 – Venus conjunct Neptune.  This is very favorable for creative pursuits and for daydreaming.

Apr 14 – Mercury Square Jupiter.  Problems with siblings and neighbors who talk too much.  Or maybe the motor mouth is you.         

                   Mercury Conjunct Uranus.    You make quick decisions and can have some ingenious ideas today.                            

                   Pluto turns retrograde at 13 degrees of Capricorn until Sep 22, 2014.  Pluto becomes more powerful when it slows down, stops and turns retrograde.  And guess what, it is happening at 13 Capricorn. 

Apr 15 – Mercury square Pluto.  You could lose lots of money on this one, be careful, check over your bills.

                   Lunar Eclipse at 25 Libra. I will write a separate post on the eclipses this month.  Check to see if you have any personal planets or the ascendant at 25 Libra or Aries and also look to the house in your birth chart that contains 25 Libra and Aries.  An eclipse shines a lot of that area.

April 16 – Mercury Opposite Mars.  Another quarrelsome day.  Don’t be too hasty to say what is on your mind, use some diplomacy.

Apr 17 – Venus trine Jupiter.  Aphrodite is trying really hard to get us to play nice. On this aspect, we really want to kick back and relax.

Apr 19 – Sun Enters Taurus until May 20.  Taurus is an earth sign and is ruled by Venus.  During this month we want to spoil ourselves with the best—good food, fine wine and art.  You want some peace and quiet, Taurus is the month to find your comfort zone and stay there.

Apr 20 – Jupiter square Uranus and opposes Pluto.  This is the start of the Grand Cross.  This could bring a sudden change in our financial circumstances.

April 21 – Uranus square Pluto.  The urge for freedom in conflict with the powers that be.

April 22 – Mars square Jupiter.  An urge to get away from everything that is causing problems.

April 23 – Mars opposite Uranus. Abrupt impulses.  This brings opposition to progress.

          Mars square Pluto.  Don’t make any changes just yet.  There are powerful forces against you.

          Mercury enters Taurus until May 7.  Mercury doesn’t like Taurus.  It is too slow and laid back a sign.  Mercury likes to be active and most of all talkative.  His brain turns to mush in this sign.

Apr 25 – Venus Trine Saturn.  A good day to see a friend you have not seen in a long time.  You can enjoy working on a project together.

          Sun Conjunct Mercury.  The sun shines a light on our mind.  We can have a breakthrough in something we have been trying to figure out.

 

 

Apr 29 – Solar Eclipse at 8 Taurus. Conjunct Mercury, sextile Neptune, trine Pluto.  This looks like a pretty good eclipse.  Look for personal planets or the ascendant at 8 Taurus or Scorpio and the house that contains 8 Taurus.  A positive light will shine on those areas of your life.

          Mercury Trine Pluto.  A good day to do research and a genealogical project.

March 2014 Forecast

I have been reading books exploring Jung’s mystical side.  Most Jungians ignore his work on UFO’s and his interest in astrology.  I am now reading Songlines of the Soul: Pathways to a New Vision for a New Century by Veronica Goodchild, PhD.  She states that “Contrary then to the idea that a rational person should dismiss Jung as a mystic, I want to emphasize that the mystical is central to Jung’s work….”

She has chapters on UFO’s and discusses Jung’s writing on the subject as well as other authors to help explain the phenomenon.  

She dedicates three chapters to Crop Circles (no, they are not created by some soused guys in a pub.  Why is it that when something totally mysterious comes in we can’t handle it and need to have a rational explanation so that we don’t feel uneasy).  We are seeing more  crop circles all the time and with more complexity in design.  There are also more UFO sightings than ever.  Goodchild thinks both of these phenomenon contain important messages for mankind; that we are ready for a new paradigm of reality, a new world view. Goodchild believes in the possibility that Crop Circles, UFO sightings and near death experiences are “…signaling a shift in our collective unconscious that will lead toward a vastly expanded sense of who we are”.  Jung claimed that the Judaeo-Christian myth was in decline and that our culture needed a new vision in order to survive.  UFO’s and crop circles are heralding  a radical change in our cultural myth. 

She writes about synchronicities and how they may “…provide the beginning hints of a new worldview coming into consciousness, one to which we are being invited to pay close attention to enable us to balance and expand the more familiar coordinates of reality”.  I have noticed in my own life that synchronicities are happening  more frequently

She also has some fascinating ideas about mystical cities such as Shambhala, Avalon and others; are they just fantasy worlds, or do they exist is some deeper sense?

This month is has three planets changing directions; Mars, Saturn and Jupiter.  If you were born within a few days of Oct 21, Mars will be stopping on your Sun on March 1  to turn retrograde.  This will be an important day to think about where you have been and where you want to go as far as your actions and ambitions.  If you were born a few days before or after Nov 15, Saturn will be stopping on your Sun on March 2.  This will be a powerful day to think about your responsibilities.  Are you taking on too much?  If your birthday is within a few days of July 2nd, on March 6 Jupiter will be turning direct on your Sun.  This will be a day to go ahead with your plans for travel and working on higher education or legal situations

Dates to Watch: 

Mar 1 – Mars Retrograde at 27 Libra until May 19.  He is considered to be in his detriment in Libra because he is the planet of war and Libra is the sign of peace.  We may find we are frustrated because we want action, we want to pursue goals but Libra wants to go to the spa, have a fine dinner and slack off.

    New Moon at 10 Pisces.  This is the beginning of the lunar month.  Pisces is the dreamer.  A good time to form an intention of what you want to create this month.  This New Moon is in a harmonious trine to Jupiter and Saturn. What a positive what to start the month.  We get a breather from our problems for at least a couple of weeks.

Mar 2 – Saturn Retrograde at 23 Scorpio through July 20, 2014. Saturn wants you to slow down and come up with some better career plans and strategies.  Saturn rules the structures in our lives and the rules we live by.  During the retrograde, it is time to question those rules, also the responsibilities we have taken on in the past.  Is it time to delegate these responsibilities to others?  If you have personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, or Mars and the ascendant at 21 to 25 of Scorpio or Taurus, you may feel overburdened and ready to dump it all.

    Venus Square Mars  The Female and Male planets doing an angry dance.  Not a good time for romance.  Sex?  Yes.

Mar 5 – Venus enters Aquarius.  The planet of Love and attachment in the sign of detachment.  You will be able to look atthat partner of yours with a much cooler gaze.  

Mar 6 – Jupiter turns direct at 10 Cancer.  If you have personal planets or the ascendant at 10 Cancer or Capricorn, it is time to finish your education, apply for a grant, travel to a foreign country, get that book published.  Whatever house in your natal chart contains Cancer will expand.

Mar 11 – Mercury Square Saturn.  A very cynical day.  You don’t believe anything anyone tells you today.  You could have delays or conflicts with authority figures, especially if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 23 Aquarius or Scorpio. 

Mar 13 – Sun Trine Saturn.  This is a good day to declutter, get organized and sort and clean up your home or office.

Mar 14 – Mercury Trine Mars.  Very good day to concentrate on any communications.  Reach out to others and do some social networking. 

Mar 16 – Full Moon at 26 Virgo.  This is the culmination of what you have wished for on the New Moon of Mar 1. 

Mar 17 – Mercury enters Pisces until April 7.  The planet of rational thinking and logic is in the airy fairy sign.  A good time to write about your dreams or write fantasy fiction. 

Mar 20 – Sun enters Aries until April 19.  This is the beginning of spring and the beginning of the zodiacal year.  A good time to make your New Years resolutions.

Mar 22 – Mercury conjunct Neptune.  Mercury is in Pisces and conjunct the ruler of Pisces.  Very spaced out day.  Let your imagination soar.  You may come up with some very creative ideas.

Mar 26 – Mercury Trine Jupiter.  A positive day for expansive thinking.  A good time to promote and advertise your work 

Mar 29 – Venus Trine Mars.  This is a good day for relationships. If some of your friendships have been on the rocks, a good day for repair.

    Venus Square Saturn. This aspect could throw a spanner in the works.  

Mar 30 – New Moon at 9 Aries.  The start of a new month.  If you didn’t get moving when the Sun entered Aries on May 20, this aspect will get your fanny in gear.

A New View of Depth Psychology’s Link to the Astrological Tradition 

 

As a practicing astrologer, I have studied many books on astrology but this new work by Richard Tarnas is by far the best one I have read in many years.  Tarnas, a respected scholar and cultural historian, wrote his first book, The Passion of the Western Mind, in 1991. It was a best seller and is still widely used in universities today.

Tarnas describes his latest book, Cosmos and Psyche:  Intimations of a New World View, as scandalous because it supports astrology by presenting the results of his 30 year long study of planetary alignments and how they correlate to historic patterns of human culture.  This work outlines a fundamental transformation in the way we see and understand our world.  He combines astrology with Jung’s theories of archetypes, the collective unconscious and synchronicity. I believe that this book is destined to be a classic, not only among astrologers, but philosophers, historians and students of culture as well.

 

Cosmos and Psyche builds on the work of Carl Jung's idea of archetypes. Tarnas says, “We can define an archetype as a universal principle, or force that affects—impels, structures, permeates—the human psyche and the world of human experience on many levels. One could think of them in mythic terms as gods and goddesses.” Essentially, archetypes are living symbols that we all share. They reside in our psyche but they also manifest in the physical world.  Many contemporary astrologers see the archetypes of modern psychology as a description of the planetary energies. Astrologers have always believed that these planetary archetypes reside in us and outside of us, hence the hermetic belief of “as above, so below.”  Tarnas believes that, “The astrological tradition can be seen as essentially continuing and deepening the depth psychology project, to make conscious the unconscious to help free the conscious self from being a puppet of unconscious forces.” 

 

Astrologers find the archetypes in the natal chart and use the movement of the planets around the natal chart, called transits, to identify the maturing or transformation of the basic natal archetypes. Astrological counseling helps to reveal the natal archetypes so that they become more conscious to the client and also brings understanding of the changes in their life based on the transits.  Of transits, Tarnas states that, “A considerable body of evidence suggests that the movements of the planets named Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, Mars, and Mercury tend to coincide with patterns of human experience that closely resemble the character of those planets’ mythical counterparts.”

 

In the main body of the work, Tarnas looks at world transits and how planetary cycles of the outer planets; Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto coincide with cultural and historical movements.  His conclusion is that there does exist a significant correspondence between planetary movements and human affairs. 

 

As an example, Tarnas traces the Uranus/Pluto conjunctions and oppositions from 318 BCE  to show how this cycle corresponded to radical mass movements for freedom.  Uranus is The Great Awakener, the archetypal symbol for individual freedom and creative ideas and Pluto is the symbol for power and mass upheavals.  In aspect, these two dynamic archetypes fuse, combine and increase their force and correspond to archetypally similar events on earth.

 

The most recent examples of Uranus/Pluto cycle are:
 

1. 1787-1798 – Uranus Opposite Pluto.  This was the time of the French Revolution, which Tarnas describes as “an upsurge of tremendous rebellious and liberating energies sweeping the world, with radical change affecting many societies.”  Also during this time Mary Wollstonecraft’s published A Vindication of the Rights of Women.   In the US, Britain and France there was the first widespread call for the abolition of slavery.  The US Constitution and the French Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen were written during this period.

 

2.  1845 to 1856 – Uranus Conjunct Pluto.  A wave of revolutionary upheavals in almost every capital of Europe such as Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Budapest, Dresden,Badn, Prague, Rome, Milan occurred during these years.  The Communist Manifeso and Thoreau’s On the Duty of Civil Disobedience were written at this time.  Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman led antislavery efforts in the US and the women’s rights movement began with Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony.  There were also upheavals in China..

 

3.  1896-1907 Uranus Opposite Pluto.  There was a rise of radical labor movements throughout Europeand North American and also the founding of socialist parties in England, the US, Russia and France.  Emma Goldman, Eugene Debs, Rosa Luxemburg, Upton Sinclair and other reformers and radical leaders were active at this time.  Other revolutionary activities were the Boxer Rebellion in China, the rise of revolutionary Chinese nationalist movements and the civil disobedience movement led by Gandhi.

 

4.  1960-1972 - Uranus Conjunct Pluto.  This period, as the examples above, coincided precisely with a time of tremendous innovation and revolutionary impulses across the world, with both great social upheaval and liberating change occurring in many countries on the planet. During that time in the United States we had the civil rights movement, the women’s rights movement, founding of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, the Freedom Riders, numerous demonstrations and marches, the civil rights acts of 1965 and 1968 and the hippies.  There was also civil unrest all over the globe. Tarnas predicts similar upheavals and liberating energies for the next fifteen years starting in 2007 with the square of Uranus and Pluto.  The transit will bring about the next evolution of the energies that were started in the Uranus/Pluto conjunction period of 1960-1972.

 

Tarnas also traces historical events related to other planetary cycles. For instance, he describes the Saturn/Pluto cycle which culminated in the world trade center and pentagon attacks on Sep 11, 2001, Saturn, the wise old man, is the archetype of the established order and material structures and Pluto, the embittered man, is the archetype of power, death, rebirth and transformation.  He traces the Uranus/Neptune cycle and the emergence of new religions.  Uranus is the Great Awakener and Neptune represents our spiritual yearnings.  The Jupiter/Uranus cycles heralded breakthroughs in music and literature.  Jupiter is expansive, moving outside the boundaries and Uranus represents new, free and creative energies. 

 

As Tarnas describes these world transits, he also shows us how the people who became identified with these events are those with natal aspects that correspond to the aspects of the planetary cycle.  In other words they share the same archetypes.  Some examples are Mary Wollstonecraft, Susan B. Anthony and Gloria Steinem all born with Uranus Square Pluto.  They contributed in a major way to the Uranus/Pluto events during three of the eras when these planetary cycles were eminent.  It’s as if those of us with certain natal planetary aspects are fated to take an important role in or be highly influenced by the activities manifested during the planetary cycles that match these aspects.

 

After all of his research, Tarnas came to the conclusion that “The universe is a fundamentally and irreducibly interconnected whole, informed by creative intelligence and pervaded by patterns of meaning and order that extends through every level and that are expressed through a constant correspondence between astronomical events and human events.”  He believes that the universe is not only conscious but it is also caring and sentient. I believe that the ideas in this book will stimulate a paradigm shift in how we view the world and our place in it, how we understand history and also how we can look to the future and see what energies will be impacting the world in years to come.
