July 2019 Forecast

This is an important month because we have two eclipses and Mercury turning retrograde. That is a lot of –one step back and then one step forward.  The signs in the barrel this month have been targeted for quite a long time and that is Cancers and Capricorns.   

The two eclipses on Jul 2 and July 16 hit Cancer and Capricorn.  Because the two heavies – Saturn and Pluto—are in Capricorn this is a time of soul searching.  I hate that term, ‘soul searching’ because my soul has been searched quite enough, thank you. We will be dealing with ghosts from the past.  What can we learn from our ancestors?

But things start to lighten up as some of the inner planets; -- Mars, Venus and the Sun--enter Leo. It’s like this is a month where we are in a watery bog and some of the planets start to pop their heads up to breath and have some fun in Leo.

(I just read a book on proper English by a copy editor at Random House, he says not to use too many dashes so, of course, I started using more dashes. Is that why I almost failed high school?-- I wonder. The name of the book which is quite good and funny is Dreyer’s English by Benjamin Dreyer).

July 1 – Mars enters Leo until August 18.  Mars loves being in Leo, he likes to initiate things and move ahead and nothing stops him in this fire sign.  Start something new,-- you will have the self-confidence to see it through.

July 2 – Total Solar Eclipse at 10 Cancer. Eclipses bring change and a Total Solar Eclipse brings mega change. See July Eclipses

July 3 – Venus enters Cancer until July 27.  Here Aphrodite stops flirting and fooling around and starts looking for a nest.  This is a good time to build firm relationships with the family.

July 7 – Mercury in Leo turns retrograde until July 31 and stays retrograde until July 31.  Now don’t let this scare you. This is a good time for all of you monkey-minds (Pisces, Gemini, Sagittarius, Aquarius) out there to stop and reflect. Slow down the mental chatter.

July 8 – Mercury conjunct Mars at 4 Leo. Mercury just stopped in the sky and he stopped on Mars, the warrior.  Your mind is stimulated on this one and I just told you to slow down. Get out your journal and start to write, because if you engage in conversation with another you could get pretty nasty especially if you have personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) or the ascendant at 2 to 6 degrees of Leo or Aquarius.

July 9 – Sun opposite Saturn at 17 Cancer/Capricorn.  This is a day to work hard at your job or at home.  You could get bogged down with responsibilities but you have to accept them.  You can’t escape Saturn; I’ve been trying for years.  Those of you with personal planets or the ascendant at 15 to 19 Cancer or Capricorn are pretty mellow and can deal with this aspect.

July 11 – Sun Trine Neptune at 18 Cancer/Pisces.   A good aspect of love and romance.  This aspect supports your ideas for a better future.  You are dreaming of a utopia if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 16 to 20 Cancer or Pisces.

          Mars Square Uranus at 6 Leo/Taurus.  Mars and Uranus are very similar energies.  They both want to burst ahead and take no prisoners-- they both hate boundaries.  So if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 4 to 8 degrees of Leo or Taurus, stay home.  Don’t play the hero.

July 14 – Sun Opposite Pluto at 21 Cancer/Capricorn. You might run headlong into a very controlling, manipulating person today.  Or are you the controlling, manipulating person?--could be if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 19 to23 of Cancer or Capricorn.

July 16 – Partial Lunar Eclipse at 24 Capricorn. This eclipse will bring endings, its time to close the door on one area of our life.  See July Eclipses

July 17 – Venus Opposite Saturn at 16 Cancer/Capricorn.  So you think you found your true love, finally.  Well, think again. Saturn is putting the brakes on any kind of romantic fantasies.  As far as relationships go, it’s back to the drawing board.  This is not good news if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 14 to 18 Cancer or Capricorn.

July 18 – Venus Trine Neptune at 18 Cancer/Pisces.  Oops.  Maybe that was a good relationship and you just hit a bump yesterday.  Today you are back in the romantic mode.  If you have personal planets or the ascendant at 16 to 20 Cancer or Pisces, you may be planning a long distance trip together.

July 19 – Mercury backs up into Cancer until August 12.  You had your break with Mercury in Leo, now your thinking is bogged down again in an emotional swamp.

July 21 – Venus Opposite Pluto at 21 Cancer/Capricorn.  You can get carried away by the beautiful sexy person you just met.  Don’t.  Take it from me; they will cause you a heap of hurt.  Be extra careful if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 19 to 23 Cancer or Capricorn.

          Sun Conjunct Mercury at 28 Cancer. The Sun is shining on your speaking and writing abilities.  It’s also good for your ambitions in business.  Take advantage of this day if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 26 Cancer to 0 Leo.

July 22 – Sun enters Leo until August 23. We decide that we have had enough of family, work, worry and emotional tirades from ourselves and others.  We want to go to the beach, invite people over and play.

July 24 – Mercury Conjunct Venus at 25 Cancer.  Mercury loves to talk. Today, he wants to talk to his friends about his other friends and also about his aspirations in the art world.  Or maybe talk about music.  A fun time especially if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 23 to 27 Cancer or Capricorn.

July 25 – Mars Trine Jupiter at 14 Leo/Sagittarius.  Very Sparkly day.  Both Mars and Jupiter are in fire signs.  Any action you take tends to be favorable.  You can be very charming and glamorous. Progress is made.  You are a real knockout if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 12 to 16 Leo or Sagittarius.

July 27 – Venus enters Leo until August 21.  We become warm-hearted, generous and confident on his one.  Get out and circulate especially if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 19 to 23 Leo.

July 29 – Sun Square Uranus at 7 Leo/Taurus. You can make some big mistakes today because Uranus doesn’t like to stop and think things through.  Don’t get stirred up by events and the drama happening around you.  If you have personal planets or the ascendant at 5 to 9 Leo, practice emotional discipline.

July 31 – New Moon at 8 Leo.  The start of a new month.  August is going to be a good month to put yourself forward and get a lot of fun projects done.  This New Moon is conjunct Venus and Square to Uranus.  This is about a revolution in the way we relate and collaborate with others.  Maybe an unusual, creative partnership comes in where you are working together on progressive projects.  Plant a seed together that will blossom in the month ahead.

          Mercury turns direct at 23 Cancer.  Finally, that wasn’t so bad, was it?  Mercury will go back into Leo on August 11 so you may want to hold your breath until then.

 

OUTER PLANET TRANSITS:

JUPITER is now in SAGITTARIUS. This month Jupiter is retrograde and moves from 17 to15 degrees of Sagittarius. Jupiter is about growth and expansion especially in travel and education and also in the area of your life ruled by the house in your natal chart that contains Sagittarius. When Jupiter is retrograde, it can bring inner growth. Jupiter is happy in Sagittarius; it is his home but don’t forget about his excessive qualities. In Sagittarius, you could take on too much-- too many projects, too many engagements, too many appointments, and too much socializing. Watch it 

SATURN is in Capricorn until 2020. This month he is moving retrograde from 17 to 15 degrees. If you have the ascendant or any personal planets at 13  to 19 degrees of Capricorn or Cancer, you may be in store for some hard lessons around the issues ruled by the planet and the house the planet is in or rules. While Saturn is in Capricorn he is asking about your ambitions, your career, and your work ethic. In Capricorn, he is right at home and wants to build something. He stimulates you to make plans to be successful in the outer world. 

URANUS is in Taurus until Apr 2026. This month he moves from 5 to 6 degrees of Taurus. If you have personal planets or the ascendant at 3 to 8 degrees of Taurus or Scorpio, you will feel a need for freedom and for making some radical changes in your life. I believe in ‘cooperating with the inevitable’. If you have Uranus in a challenging aspect to your ascendant or personal planets, go on a long vacation, move or make some major changes in your life. 

NEPTUNE (creativity, sensitivity, escapism, dreams) is in Pisces until 2026. This month he is traveling retrograde and stays at 18 degrees of Pisces all month. A lack of focus, a sense of drifting or an inability to see a betrayal or disappointment until it's too late can be experienced by those of you with the Sun or Personal Planets at 16 to 20 degrees of Pisces or Virgo. For the enlightened out there, Neptune can also bring artistic, musical, creative expression, increased dreams and spiritual insights. Watch for some really inspired films to come out during the time Neptune is in Pisces.  

PLUTO is in Capricorn until 2023. This month Pluto is retrograde and will move from 22 to 21degrees of Capricorn. Profound changes will be felt especially by those with the ascendant or personal planets at 19 to 23 degrees of Capricorn or Cancer. What needs to die in order to be reborn?

Eclipses of July 2 and July 16

Eclipses on July 2^nd and July 16^th

The first eclipse is a Total Solar Eclipse on July 2^nd taking place in the sign of Cancer. The second Eclipse is a Lunar Eclipse on July 16^th and takes place in Capricorn.

The ancients believed that during an eclipse,” the mighty will fall". They bring endings and beginnings-- births and deaths. They believed that rulers are born or die at the time of eclipses.  President Trump was born on a Lunar Eclipse in 1946, Prince William was born on a Solar Eclipse in 1982 and Princess Diana died on a Solar Eclipse in 1997. People born on an eclipse have a light that shines out to others and they tend to be popular or important people. The energy from an eclipse can last up to six months and also become active a month before the actual eclipse.

 

Total Solar Eclipse on July 2 at 10 Cancer

This eclipse will be seen across the South Pacific, Chile, and Argentina.

Solar Eclipses tend to relate to sudden events that disrupt our day to day functioning; they are the crisis that seems to come out of nowhere and that suddenly demand all of our conscious attention and focus. They tend to stir things up on a physical and conscious level much more than Lunar Eclipses.

A solar eclipse is a powerful new moon so make plans for the future. Set your intentions during this eclipse around Cancer themes – family, home, children and traditions.

The 6 months following this eclipse is an ideal time to make a fresh start in your relationships with your immediate family.

 

Total Lunar Eclipse on July 16 at 24 Capricorn

This is a partial Lunar Eclipse and will be seen in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, and South America.

On a Lunar Eclipse, something will end and on a Solar Eclipse, something will begin. A Lunar Eclipse is an opportunity to break habits or eliminate socially conditioned patterns of thought and behavior that stand in the way of self-realization. 

This eclipse rules big business, property, land, and finance.  Also, this eclipse can help you get grounded and organized in your daily routines. 

A Lunar Eclipse can make us more aware of our patterns, and our unconscious motivations. This is especially true since this eclipse is conjunct Pluto. This period of time can bring up old memories and feelings.  Full moon eclipses can bring things to completion that you have been working on. The Sun opposite the Moon lights up the Moon and brings previously unexamined areas of your life into awareness. Repressed energies emerge for confrontation and resolution.  Pay attention to your dreams. Lunar Eclipses are more emotional than Solar Eclipses. 

This eclipse on July 16 will affect two signs – Cancer and Capricorn.  Capricorn wants to succeed in the outer world.  Cancer wants to develop and maintain a secure home life.  The inter-relationship between these two signs mirrors the inter-relationship each of us has with our urge for prestige and the urge to tend to the home.

How will these eclipses affect you?

Eclipses are contrary to the status quo. If impacted by one of these eclipses, your life will not run on the same track it has been on.  But that can be a good thing. Some view eclipses as release and renewal points.  If your birthday falls on or is close to the dates of an eclipse your life will change dramatically in the months and years ahead. An eclipse is more powerful if the shadow falls where you are living or on your birthplace.

Eclipses repeat every 19 years.  We had solar and lunar eclipses at the same points In July of 2000. Look back at what happened then. This will continue a theme that was playing out at that time. But remember, eclipses get triggered after they occur so events can come in after the eclipse especially within 6 months after the event.

An eclipse tends to emphasize matters related to the house it falls in on your natal chart and what planets it conjuncts or opposes.  The areas ruled by the houses or planets will demand more attention, thought, energy, and time from you, at least until the next eclipse in December 2019.   Eclipses open doors and invite you to come in, illuminating and stimulating areas of your life that need your attention.

Remember that planetary energies are archetypal and archetypes can be expressed in many different ways. It’s really based on your consciousness and how you decide to work with these energies.

The Solar Eclipse of July 2 at 10 Cancer will affect you if you have personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and/or Mars) or the ascendant at 8 to 12 degrees of Cancer and/or Capricorn. Also, look at your natal chart for the house that holds 8 to 12 degrees of cancer.

The Total Lunar Eclipse of July 16 at 24 Capricorn happens on a full moon as all Lunar Eclipses and two houses in your natal chart will be affected. This eclipse will impact you if one of your personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and/or Mars) or the ascendant is at 22 to 26 Capricorn or Cancer.  It will mean the end of one set of circumstances and the beginning of another. Let go! Look at your natal chart for the houses that contains 22 to 26 degrees of Cancer or Capricorn.   This eclipse will stir up events related to those houses.

The Sun Moves Into Cancer Today

Happy Birthday, Cancers!

You know how we all need to feel like a baby some time and need cuddling and emotional healing? Where do we go for that? -- To the Cancers. And I know all you Cancers out there are saying, “Oh no, but I’m sick of handling all the whiners in the world.” Well, hey, it’s your job. Especially Cancer rising types, as they project out to the world, “come here you poor little thing and I will give you a big hug and lots to eat.” Cancer thinks that food equals love. Cancer is here to be the caretaker. They are wonderful with small children and elders.

Their houses are filled with plants, animals, family photos and dishes from their great-great-grandmother. All of the stuff around them makes them feel warm and cozy. They have nostalgia for the good old days and complain about how much better life was under Eisenhower. It’s great when you visit them to get the home baked cookies, but if you stay too long you can start to suffocate and you will run out the door and Cancer will start to cry. No one cries as easily as Cancer with the exception of Pisces.

Now you may think that Cancer is a weak sign because it is a water sign and rules emotion. But you are wrong. The quality of Cancer is cardinal and all cardinal signs (Aries, Libra, Capricorn) have a dynamic approach to life; they go after what they want even though in the case of Cancer it may not be obvious. Cancer wants to bond with others. They will go after a relationship, but not in a direct way. They take 3 steps forward and 2 steps back. They are subtle, they skirt around you, come at you from different angles. They insinuate, hint, wheedle, cozy up, ingratiate themselves and this behavior can drive an Air Sign (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) totally mad. But then again, maybe we air signs are just too obtuse to pick up the signals. They are way ahead of us in emotional language. While we are trying to figure them out in a rational manner, the Cancer Crab snags us in their big claws and once they have us they won’t let go.

You have the Cancer archetype if you have the Sun, Moon or the ascendant in Cancer or if you have a stellium (3 or more planets) in Cancer. But remember none of us is a pure zodiac sign; we need to take the other archetypes in our birth chart into consideration.

Myth: Demeter

Demeter or “earth mother” is the goddess of grain. She is associated with food and fertility. She is mankind’s best friend. She is not flirtatious or wicked, like the other goddesses. Demeter had only one daughter, Persephone, the maiden of spring. Persephone was playing in the fields and reached to pick a narcissus. Suddenly, Hades appeared through a chasm in the earth. He abducted Persephone and brought her to the underground in this black chariot which was driven by coal-black steeds. The hills echoed her cry. Her mother sped over land and sea as she searched for her, but no one would tell Demeter the truth of what happened. Demeter wandered for nine days without eating or sleeping. Finally, Helios the sun, who sees everything, told Demeter what had happened. She was so upset, that the earth became a barren wasteland where nothing would grow, and the people began to starve. Zeus finally realized he had to do something. He sent the gods to Demeter one after another, but she would not listen to any of them. She refused to let the earth bear fruit until she had seen her daughter. She wandered to Eleusis where she met the old crone Baubo, who finally got her to eat by lifting up her dress and doing a lascivious dance. This made Demeter laugh and the earth started to blossom again.

This myth is about the 3 stages of womanhood-- virgin, mother, and crone. Persephone and Demeter were too attached to their roles and refused to grow beyond them. Persephone wanted to stay a little girl forever. Zeus noticed this and told Pluto he could have Persephone for a wife because she was old enough to be married. Persephone became the queen of the underworld. Demeter was hanging on to the mother role and refused to grow into the Crone until she met Baubo who showed her that there was a life for the body beyond the mother role.

Cancer Traits: Cancer types are nurturers. They hold on to emotional bonds. They cannot accept it when loved ones grow away from them. They care more about the family than the world and can be moody and non-rational. They need to develop a broad view of things. When hurt, they often withdraw and refuse to deal with the world, but must learn to allow humor in their lives. In the end, they need to overcome their strong attachment to the past and nurture mankind. A love of family can become a detriment to their progress.

Primary Goal: To nurture themselves and others. They start out caring for babies and then children and then adults and if they follow their true path they end up with a vocation in the healing arts, working with families or with food. We really need Cancers right now to heal the earth.
