I use Archetypal Astrology to understand events in the world such as the rise of the “Me Too” movement. The Wonder Woman comic book that came out in 1942 was created by William Marston, an American Psychologist, whose stated purpose was to empower women. Many of us who read the Wonder Woman comics when we were kids helped start the women’s movement in the late 60’s. We would sit in consciousness-raising groups sporting replicas of Wonder Woman’s watch. Seventy-five years later in the summer of 2017, the Wonder Woman movie premiered. Jupiter, who likes to magnify and expand any sign he is in, went into Scorpio in Oct 2017. I see Scorpio as the sign of feminine power represented by mythical figures such as the Old Crone, Medusa, and Durga, the slayer of men. That same month the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke and women rose up and owned their own power and initiated the “Me Too” movement. The Wonder Woman movie shows a dynamic feminine figure and has a captivating narrative. It had a major impact on many of us because our psyches feed on powerful images and stories. That is why I often use illustrations from fairy tales and myths to describe the planets and the signs during my astrological consultations.

This month we have 3 planets changing directions: Mercury turns direct at 4 Aries, Saturn turns retrograde at 9 Capricorn and Pluto turns retrograde at 21 Capricorn. 21 Capricorn is also the degree and sign that Mars conjuncts Pluto, easily the most dynamic aspect this month. Look for these points in your birth chart for impacts from these movements.
This is a difficult month for Capricorn, especially those born in late December and early January and also birthdates on January 10th through 14th. I know Caps can get morose and glum, but they are great at using self-deprecating humor to amuse those around them.
Dates to Watch:
Apr 1 – Sun Conjunct Mercury at 11 Aries. Mercury has wings on his feet and loves to flit around town. You may find yourself traveling. Or this aspect could stimulate your literary side. Mercury is still retrograde until the 15th. So don’t’ start something new. Maybe organize your desktop and delete all of those worthless facebook posts. This is especially strong if you have personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars) or the ascendant between 9 and 13 of Aries or Libra.
Apr 2 – Mars Conjunct Saturn at 8 Capricorn. The old-timers called Mars and Saturn “Malefics” . But, some ‘new agey’ type of astrologers try to find some positive things to say about this aspect. There ain't any. Mars wants action and Saturn is sitting on him. This is not a good aspect for travel. Don’t tell anyone your plans. Get rid of the irresponsible types around you. You will feel stymied. Saturn teaches us patience. This aspect will be in effect for a few weeks. Stay home if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 6 to10 Capricorn or Cancer.
Apr 4 – Mercury Square Mars at 9 Aries/Capricorn. This is not a great aspect either. You feel like saying exactly what is on your mind. Don’t! Your words will be seen as a challenge. A bit of diplomacy is required today. Keep your trap shut, especially if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 7 to 11 degrees of Aries or Capricorn.
Apr 5 – Mercury Square Saturn at 9 degrees of Aries/Capricorn. Another aspect that is not so hot. You could find yourself at loggerheads with someone.
An astrologer by the name of Ebertin wrote a book that describes the impact of three planets in aspect. His take on Mercury, Mars, and Saturn is “separations caused by disputes and arguments”
Apr 7 – Venus Trine Saturn at 8 Taurus/Capricorn. Whew! Finally a good aspect. This is enjoyment-- maybe through research or an old friend shows up.
Apr 11 – Sun Square Pluto at 21 Aries/Capricorn. Back to the obstacles and conflicts. Don’t demand too much. It may take a lot of self-control to keep your environment peaceful. Someone could come into your space and try to control or manipulate you. Watch for this if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 19 to 23 degrees of Aries or Capricorn.
Venus Trine Mars. A time to give serious thought to your financial security. Pay some bills.
Apr 15 – Mercury stations Direct at 4 Aries. He went retrograde on March 22. Wait a few days before you start shopping or signing contracts. If you have personal planets or the ascendant at 2 to 6 Aries, your head could be buzzing with a million ideas. Act on one at a time.
New Moon at 26 Aries. This New Moon is in a conjunction with Uranus. This is a powerhouse New Moon. Expect to be surprised. Get started on something you always wanted to do--the more outlandish the better.
Apr 17 – Venus Opposite Jupiter and Trine Pluto today at 21 Taurus, Scorpio, and Capricorn. This could bring you great happiness, abundance, and beauty. That covers it all. Go out and celebrate if you have any personal planets or the ascendant at 19 to 23 of Taurus Scorpio or Capricorn.
Saturn Turns Retrograde at 9 Capricorn until Sep 6. Things start to slow down; particularly in the area of your career or other structures you have built in your life. This aspect says, don’t be so ambitious. Take some time off. As the Tao says, “do your work and then step back, the only way to serenity”. Chill out especially if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 7 to 11 Capricorn.
Apr 18 – Sun Conjunct Uranus at 28 Aries. Uranus and Aries are both headstrong and impulsive. Watch out for road rage. If you have personal planets at 26 Aries to 0 Taurus, you may be the ‘road rager’.
Apr 19 – Sun enters Taurus until May 20. It is not a coincidence that Earth Day happens in a Taurus month. Taurus is about the land, flowers trees, and nature herself. Go visit a flower garden during this month.
Apr 22 – Pluto stations Retrograde at 21 Capricorn until Sep 30, 2018. It’s time to strategize and figure out where you are going and how you are going to get there. This is doubly important because Saturn is also retrograde during this period. Career and finances-- those are the two areas to look at. But take your time making your plans. This is an important time for those with personal planets or the ascendant at 19 to 23 Capricorn or Cancer.
Apr 24 – Venus enters Gemini until May 19. Aphrodite becomes a big flirt now. Don’t fall for the little vamp. In this placement, we just don’t feel like committing to a relationship. We have a horror of settling down.
Apr 25 – Mercury Square Saturn at 9 Aries/Capricorn. You suffered under this one on April 5. That is when Mercury was retrograde and squared Saturn. Now Mercury is direct and Saturn is retrograde. Since April 5 you have had to let go of plans that you now realize just won’t work. After today, start making more realistic plans. You may be disappointed in your progress if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 7 to11 Aries or Capricorn.
Apr 26 – Mars Conjunct Pluto at 21 Capricorn. A powerhouse aspect. You have energy and a lot of ideas, but the problem is you just may steamroll over people to get what you want. Pluto can be ruthless and Mars isn’t such a nice guy either. These are particularly dynamic aspect if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 19 to 23 Capricorn or Cancer
Apr 29 – Sun Trine Saturn. Good aspect. You can accomplish a lot by using concentration and practical ideas.
Full Moon at 9 Scorpio. This is the culmination of the ideas you had on the New Moon of April 15. Anything started at that time will produce results now.
OUTER PLANET TRANSITS:
JUPITER is now in Scorpio. This month Jupiter is retrograde and will travel from 22 to 219 degrees of Scorpio this month. Jupiter is about growth and expansion especially in travel and education and also in the area of your life ruled by the house in your natal chart that holds 19 to 22 degrees of Scorpio. When Jupiter is retrograde, he brings inner growth. Scorpio types are into growth, they are always looking at ways that they could better themselves, especially emotionally and psychologically. Jupiter in Scorpio will help you with that. But in Scorpio, he can also bring excess in all the things that are not good for you.
SATURN is in Capricorn until 2020. This month he will travel from 8 to 9 degrees of Capricorn turning retrograde on April 17. If you have the ascendant or any personal planets at 8 to 9 degrees of Capricorn or Cancer, you may be in store for some hard lessons around the issues ruled by the planet and the house the planet is in or rules. While Saturn is in Capricorn he is asking about our ambitions, our career, and our work ethic. In Capricorn he is right at home and wants to build something, make plans and succeed in the outer world.
URANUS is in Aries until 2018. This month Uranus moves from 27 to 29 degrees of Aries. He goes into Taurus on May 15 and then he turns retrograde and goes back into Aries on Aug 7 and stays in Aries the rest of 2018. We feel a need for freedom and we want to make some radical changes in our life. I believe in “cooperating with the inevitable”. If you have Uranus in a challenging aspect to your ascendant or personal planets, go on a long vacation, move or make some major changes in your life.
NEPTUNE (creativity, sensitivity, escapism, dreams) is in Pisces until 2026. This month he is moving from 14 to 15 degrees of Pisces. A lack of focus, a sense of drifting or an inability to see a betrayal or disappointment until it's too late can be experienced by those of you with the Sun or Personal Planets at 14 to 15 degrees of Pisces or Virgo. For the enlightened out there, Neptune can also bring artistic, musical, creative expression, increased dreams and spiritual insights. Watch for some really inspired films to come out during the time Neptune is in Pisces.
PLUTO is in Capricorn until 2023. This month Pluto will stay at 21 degrees of Capricorn all month. He turns retrograde on April 22. Profound changes will be felt especially by those with the ascendant or personal planets at 21 degrees of Capricorn or Cancer. What needs to die in order to be reborn?
