I feel
kinda hopeless today. Maybe it’s because
it’s my birthday tomorrow and transiting Sun is conjunct my natal Sun. This is not a happy time astrologically. There is some evidence that birthday parties
originated to cheer up the person having the Sun conjunct Sun aspect.
Then, I
checked my email to lift myself up and read my favorite environmental blogger,
Dave Pollard, and he writes about how he has totally given up trying to save
the world. He feels that there is a point when civilizations becomes so
complex that no individual can make any impact on changing it. And that includes
the president of the United
States and other heads of state. But
then I got an email from Eckhart
Tolle who came to the rescue to remind me that the only happiness I will
find is in the present.
On a
lighter note, I will tell you a little secret about me. Even though I spend a lot of time reading mythological
and astrological stuff and writing on my computer; once in a while I will sneak
out to the movies to see something like Iron Man 3. My love of these comic book movies completely
baffles my husband. He thought he had
married an intelligent, rational person, hah! It took me some time to figure out why I liked
the comic book movies. Like other protofeminists, I grew up reading Wonder Woman comics. Then it hit me
that these are our modern mythological characters, duh! I can be really slow sometimes.
In my opinion
our greatest all time modern American myth is Superman. His
first appearance was in Action Comics #1 published on April 18, 1938. What a
great Aries hero! You can understand his story, by understanding what was
happening in 1938 the year of his birth.
We were in the midst of the Great Depression and under the threat of
Nazi Germany. Also, the New Deal
programs were in place, which were based on the belief that someone would help
the little guy, lift him up and defend him from the big guys. Superman was a
needed response to all this and represents the feeling of alienation that many
immigrants were experiencing at that time.
A Superman
movie is coming out this month on June 14 called Superman: Man of Steel. I
love it when they use an epithet such as Man of Steel. The Greeks and Romans
used epithets (a Greek word meaning byname) to describe their gods and
goddesses, such as Gray-Eyed Athena, it gives a description of the person along
with their name. The English used them to describe their royalty such as Charles the Fat. How would you like that one? I presented a conference once on archetypes
and we all had name tags with an epithet after our names based on our birth chart, either the Sun Sign
or the dominant planet in their chart, e.g., Dan, The One Who Serves (Virgo). Linda,
The One Who Talks (Gemini). John, The
Morose (Saturn) Jane, The Powerful
(Scorpio) Nancy,
The Space Cadet (Neptune) and on and
on. Have you ever read the Horace Rumpole
mysteries? In his books, he secretly
calls his wife Hilda, She Who Must Be
Obeyed.
The only
other major myth that rivals Superman is Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. Focusing on
these two characters can tell us a lot about ourselves. We are yearning for our
real home because, especially in the US, very few of us live in the
communities we were born into. We feel
alone and are looking for our allies.
While
watching the Superman trailer, I figured out how the world will end. We will have a major catastrophe, maybe Kim what’s
his name will send over a nuclear bomb and Clark Kent
will come running out of his newspaper office in New York City. He will be on the street ripping off his tie
and looking for the phone booth to change and, of course, there aren’t any left.
We got rid of all the phone booths! I knew that cell phones would kill us in the
end.
This month,
we are finished with the eclipses until October and also finished with the
Uranus/Pluto square until November 1. So
we have a breather. And a great aspect
this month is Saturn trine Neptune. This aspect will help us work on our creative
projects, and manifest our dreams. So get busy.
Dates to Watch:
Jun 2 – Venus enters Cancer until June 27. It has been very hard to make commitments to a loved one and be true blue when Venus was in Gemini. Now Venus moves into Cancer and we want to stay home, cook, and be with the family. It’s pretty disgusting, but there it is.
June 3 – Mercury Trine Neptune. A creative day for the mind. Write a mystery and fantasy story. Or better yet, a poem. It doesn’t take as long.
Mercury Trine Saturn. This enhances the ability to write today. Your mind is focused.
June 7 – Neptune stops in the sky and turn retrograde at 5 degrees of Pisces. Neptune will stay retrograde until Nov 13, 2013. If you have personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars ) or the ascendant at 3 to 7 degrees of Pisces or Virgo you will be very sensitive today and a few days before and after. Or you may start channeling beings from Sirius. Here is an article on Neptune retrograde and a not to be missed naked picture of Neptune by Kelli Fox.
Venus Trine Neptune. Very romantic day. Also, a good day to rearrange the furniture and decorate your home.
Venus Trine Saturn. You may hear from a friend you haven’t seen in a long time. Saturn represents the past. You may start a love affair with an old lover. I mean old in both senses of the word.
Mercury Opposite Pluto. You are very outspoken today and may offend people, especially those in authority. Keep your head down beneath the cubicle wall.
Mars Square Neptune. Watch what you say and who you say it to. You better not be too trusting today.
June 8 – New Moon at 11:56 AM at 18 Gemini. This New Moon is sextile Uranus. Start a new project that has to do with technology or is something you have never tried before.
Mercury Square Uranus. Keep calm because your mind is going off into many directions today.
June 11 – Venus Opposite Pluto. A hot romance could arise today. Be careful not to go too far too fast; except for Aries and Scorpio. They won’t listen to me anyway.
Saturn Trine Neptune at 5 Scorpio/Pisces. If you have any personal planets or the ascendant at 3 to 8 degrees of these signs, your work will flow. Think of the artistic or spiritual ideas that you want to bring into the world
June 12 – Venus Square Uranus. You are just ornery, you think you know everything and keep running to your relatives to give them advice. They don’t want to hear it.
June 19 – Sun Conjunct Jupiter at 28 Gemini. A very happy, lucky day. Take a trip. Get together with friends. Especially positive if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 26 to 29 degrees of Gemini or Sagittarius.
June 20 – Mercury Conjunct Venus. Your speech is more pleasant and artistic. Also you may get a sexy email from someone of the opposite sex.
June 21 – Sun enters Cancer. This month is the time of the year for home barbeques and being with the family.
June 23 – Full Moon at 2 Capricorn at 7:32 AM. Full Moons are culminations. Something that you started back at the New Moon can reach a plateau today.
June 25 – Jupiter enters Cancer until mid July 2014. This is just what all of you Sun in Cancer and Cancer rising types have been waiting for. Jupiter is coming in with good luck, expansion, and growth in experience in education and social groups. But uh oh, You may gain weight. The gods don’t let us get away with anything.
June 26 – Sun Trine Saturn. I hate to say this, but your closets are overflowing with junk and your house is a mess. A good day to de-clutter.
Mercury turns retrograde at 23 Cancer until 20 July. Let’s not freak out over this. Just don’t buy any large, especially electronic or electric, appliances. If you have to commit such as signing a lease, it is OK, you just may not stay there long. You may find something better later.
Sun Trine Neptune. This aspect stimulates our idealism. It is good for love and romance.
June 27 – Venus enters Leo until Jul 22. I like Venus in Leo, it gives us enough narcissism to protect ourselves from the vampires out there.
OUTER PLANET TRANSITS
JUPITER is in Gemini until Jun 25, 2013 when he will enter Cancer. This month he will move from 24 Gemini to 1 degree of Cancer. You will now feel enthusiastic and exuberant. A good time to expand your life with education and experiences. Look to the house in your natal chart that holds 24 to 29 Gemini/Sagittarius and also 1 degree Cancer or Capricorn. This is the area of your life that will experience this expansion.
SATURN is in Scorpio until Dec 24, 2014. This month Saturn is moving retrograde from 5 to 4 degrees. This is a good period to get organized. If you have the ascendant or any personal planets at 5 to 4 degrees of Scorpio or Taurus in your natal chart, you may be in store for some hard lessons around the issues ruled by the planet and the house the planet is in or rules. Scorpio rules passion, sex and depths of all kinds and Saturn may ask you to take on more responsibility for how you control your rage and psychological expression.
URANUS is in Aries until
2018. This month Uranus moves from 11 to 12 degrees of Aries. We all feel
a need to rebel; we want more freedom and want to make some radical changes in
our life. I believe in “cooperating with the inevitable”. If you
have Uranus in a challenging aspect to your ascendant or personal planets, go
on a long vacation, move, or make some major changes in your life.
NEPTUNE (creativity, sensitivity, escapism,
dreams) has just moved into Pisces until 2026 and will turn retrograde on Jun
7. This month Neptune is staying at 5 degrees
of Pisces all month. A lack of focus, a sense of drifting or an inability to
see a betrayal or disappointment until it's too late can be experienced by
those of you with the Sun or Personal Planets at 5 degree of Pisces or Virgo.
For the enlightened out there, Neptune can
also bring artistic, musical, creative expression, increased dreams and
spiritual insights. Watch for some really inspired films to come out
during the time Neptune is in Pisces.
PLUTO is in Capricorn until 2023. This month Pluto is retrograde and is moving from 11 to 10 degrees of Capricorn. Everyone is feeling the urge to purge and to find his or her truth. Profound changes will be felt especially by those with Sun, ascendant or personal planets at 10 or 11 degrees of Capricorn or Cancer.
Have a good month,
Janet Kane
