June 2012 - An Astrological Roller Coaster Ride

Fasten your seatbelts!  This month we have a rare transit of Venus on the Sun on June 5 and 6, we have a Lunar Eclipse on June 4 and the first of 7 long awaited squares of Uranus and Pluto.

We will all be feeling this turmoil, but mostly Geminis, Sagittarians and those of us with personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) or the Ascendant at 6 to 15 degrees of Aries, Libra, Capricorn and Cancer.  Also those born between 1962 and 1969 during the Uranus/Pluto Conjunction. These are the people who will catch on fire with the energy of the Uranus/Pluto square.  It would be interesting to do a survey to find out how many of that generation is involved with the Occupiers.

Neptune turns retrograde on Jun 4.  Saturn turns direct on the 25^th of June.  Venus turns direct on June 27.  But these are a piece of cake compared to the previous items.

Dates to Watch:

June 1 – Mercury Conjunct Venus.  All you want to talk about is love and money.  OK, are you under loved or underpaid, probably both, but do you have to tell us all?  Should we alert the media?

June 3 – Mercury Trine Saturn.  Now is the time to make long range plans especially about your career.  Does anyone really have careers anymore?

June 4, 2012 – A Lunar Eclipse at 14 Sagittarius/Gemini.  This eclipse is conjunct Venus and Square to Mars.  This is all about give and take in relationships.  Are you a demure little roll-over-and-play-dead little girl or a milk toast kinda guy or are you aggressive.  You may not know which way to go during this eclipse especially if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 11 to 17 degrees of Gemini, Sagittarius and Virgo.  For more on the May and June eclipses, see my blog.  For all Lunar Eclipses it is best to let go of old dreams before we pursue new ones.  Education and travel could be interrupted.  An eclipse in Gemini leads us to question everything and Sagittarius can give us a new spiritual direction.

            Neptune Retrograde at 3 Pisces until Nov 11, 2012. We can revive our meditation practice and realize that all spiritual inspiration comes from within.  A time to look inward to see what needs to be healed. 

June 5 and 6 – Venus exact transit of the Sun. This alignment only happens 4 times every 243 years.   In North America we will be able to see at least a portion of it on the early evening of June 5 at 6:04 PM to 6:21 PM.   We will see Venus as a black dot crossing over the Sun.  Be sure to take precautions when viewing the Sun, check The Sky and Telescope site.  I consider Venus the planet of values, maybe this aspect will wake us up to what is really valuable in our lives.

The ancients worshipped Venus in her dual aspect.  Venus now is an Evening Star known as Vesper, ruling gentle wisdom.  Once she crosses the Sun she becomes the Morning Star on June 13.  As the morning star she was known as the Warrior.  You can see what type of Venus you have by looking at your chart to see if your Venus placement is before or after the Sun.  Adam Gainsburg has been doing a lot of research and tracking the Venus cycle.  Also, read Eric Francis interpretation of the Venus transit as Embracing the Solar Feminine here.

Jun 7 – Mercury enters Cancer until June 25. Mercury doesn’t like being in a water sign because he is going to have to start talking about his feelings, ugh!  Sometimes we just clam up during this period.  We feel safer that way.

            Sun Square Mars at 17 Gemini/Virgo.  Temper, temper.  Put your angry energy into working out at the gym.

Jun 8 – Mercury Trine Neptune.  Our minds are on the finer things in life.  Visit a museum

Jun 11 – Jupiter enters Gemini until Jun 27, 2013.  The planet of excess and expansion will be in Gemini for one year.  In Gemini, Jupiter expands the mind and increases our options for the future.  Gemini gathers too much data and during this year, we may get buried in information.  Go on a media fast.  On the bright side it can bring abundance into your life especially if you have planets or the ascendant in Gemini. But, on the other hand, abundance can be overweight.  So watch your diet.

            Mercury Square Uranus opposite Pluto.  The Uranus Pluto square is exact on Jun 24 and having Mercury involved in this square today makes us scared stiff of that square.  That is all we seem to be thinking and talking about.  Our nerves could become over stimulated.  Also, we may start to look at life from a different perspective.

Jun 13 – Sun Trine Saturn.  A day to get down to business and working with elders.

Jun 19 - New Moon at 28 Gemini. Set your intentions.  This is the start for the coming month. Include learning new things this month, read, study, go to school.

Jun 20 – Mercury Square Saturn.  Don’t find your self at logger heads with others.  Practice love not war.

            Sun enters Cancer until July 22^nd.  This is the beginning of summer.  Cancer is a water sign ruled by the Moon.  We may find ourselves a little moody at this time and withdrawn.

Jun 23 – Sun Trine Neptune.  Your idealism is stimulated.  You can imagine some pretty big schemes, make sure they are realistic.

June 24 – Uranus Square Pluto.  This is the first of two Uranus square Pluto aspects in 2012, and the first of seven over the next few years.

May 20, 2013 at 6 degrees Aries/Capricorn

Nov 1, 2013 at 11 degrees Aries/Capricorn

21 April 2014 at 9 degrees Aries/Capricorn

Dec 15 2014 at 13 degrees Aries/Capricorn

March 17, 2015 at 15 degrees Aries/Capricorn

These are outer planets that move slowly so these dates are not when we will experience this square, we will experience it throughout this period.   When a client has a series of transits like this, I tell them to pay attention to the first one and that will give them an idea of how the following transits will affect them. The changes from these squares started when Pluto entered Capricorn in 2008 and intensified when Uranus entered Aries in 2011.  So we have seen some major changes in our world already.  These two planets in these signs bring revolution, action, death and rebirth. 

The square is waxing and waxing squares tend to create lasing change especially when they are in cardinal signs. The planet and humanity will not be same after these squares.  How do we know?  Well the last time Uranus was square Pluto was during the Great Depression of the 1930’s.  And the beginning of this square was in the 1960’s when Uranus and Pluto were in a conjunction.. 

Jun 25 – Jupiter Square Neptune.  Today we are optimistic, maybe there is an upswing in the stock market.  Things look rosy, don’t believe it.  This aspect is all about belief.  Jupiter rules religion and Neptune rules spirituality.  A good day to pray and meditate.

            Saturn turns direct at 22 Libra.  During the long retrograde period from Feb 7, 2012 our ambitions ran into a lot of snags.  It was hard to get ahead or even to find a job.   Now the momentum in those areas pick up.  Look for opportunities.

            Mercury enters Leo until September 12.  Mercury stays in Leo extra long because he turns retrograde next month on July 15.  Leo is a creative sign, you may be able to write or do other creative work during this time.

Jun 27 – Venus turns direct. Our social, romantic and love life picks up.  Now you can make commitments, get married, whatever.

Jun 29 – Sun opposite Pluto at 8 Cancer/Capricorn.  Some other person is trying to manipulate you. First recognize them and then avoid them, especially be alert if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 8 degrees of Cancer, Aries, Libra or Capricorn.

            Sun Square Uranus at 8 Cancer/Aries. You could be restless and wired and make lots of mistakes today, stay calm. You feel especially crazy if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 8 Cancer, Aries, Capricorn or Libra.

OUTER PLANET TRANSITS 

JUPITER is in Taurus until June 11, 2012.  This month Jupiter will move from 27 Taurus to 4 Gemini.  Now is the time to move ahead with your optimistic plans for the future, especially if you have the ascendant, Sun or Moon between 27 degrees of Taurus or Scorpio to 4 degrees of Gemini/Sagittarius.

SATURN is in Libra (structure, foundation, and responsibility) until Oct 2012. This month Saturn is moving retrograde from 23 to 22 degrees of Libra until Jun 25 when it moves direct.    If you have the Ascendant or any personal planets at 23 to 22 degrees of Libra in your natal chart, you may be in store for some hard lessons around the issues ruled by the planet and the house the planet is in or rules. Libra rules relationships of all kinds and Saturn may ask you to take on more responsibility for how your relationships work. 

URANUS is in Aries until 2018.  This month Uranus is moving from 7 to 8 degrees of Aries.  We all feel a need to rebel, we want more freedom and want to make some radical changes in our life.  I believe in “cooperating with the inevitable”.  If you have Uranus in a challenging aspect to your ascendant or personal planets, go on a long vacation, move, or make some major changes in your life.
 
NEPTUNE (creativity, sensitivity, escapism, dreams) is in Pisces until 2026. This month Neptune turns retrograde on Jun 4 and moves from 3 to 2 degrees of Pisces. A lack of focus, a sense of drifting or an inability to see a betrayal or disappointment until it's too late can be experienced by those of you with the Sun or Personal Planets at 2 to 3 degrees of Pisces.  For the enlightened out there, Neptune can also bring artistic, musical, creative expression, increased dreams and spiritual insights. 

PLUTO is in Capricorn until 2023.  This month Pluto is moving retrograde and is staying at 8 degrees of Capricorn. Everyone is feeling the urge to purge and to find his or her truth.  Profound changes will be felt especially by those with Sun, Ascendant or personal planets at 8 to 9 degrees of Capricorn or Cancer.

Eclipses of May and June 2012

We have a Solar Eclipse on May 20 and a Lunar Eclipse on June 4.

The ancients believed that during an eclipse, the "mighty will fall". They appear often in the mythology of different cultures most often as symbols of obliteration, fear, and the overthrow of the natural order of things. Eclipses were the great omens of fated, large-scale events. The word eclipse comes from a Greek word meaning "abandonment." Quite literally, an eclipse was seen as the Sun abandoning the earth.

Every six months, eclipses show the turning points in our lives. They indicate what we are to accomplish for the following year to 3 years. They bring in news and events that are sometimes "out of the blue". Time seems to speed up. In a positive sense, eclipses can clear what may obscure the way forward. Remember that the key words for eclipses are emphasis and crisis.  Eclipses are contrary to the status quo. If impacted by one of these eclipses, your life will not run on the same track it has been on. But that can be a good thing.

The eclipse of the Sun has been traditionally viewed with dread over the ages, as the Sun seems to disappear from the sky. It gets dark in the middle of the day and it seems as if something dreadful is about to happen.   Solar Eclipses tend to relate to sudden events that disrupt our day to day functioning; they are the crisis that seems to come out of nowhere and that suddenly demand all of our conscious attention and focus. They tend to stir things up on a physical and conscious level much more than Lunar Eclipses.

The way to figure out whether or not an eclipse will be positive or challenging, is to look at the aspects that the eclipse is making to other planets in the sky, and also to the planets they are aspecting in your natal chart.

Partial Solar Eclipse May 20 at 00 Gemini at 7:47 PM EDT.

We are in a long series of Sagittarius/Gemini that ends in May 2013. All of you Gemini/Sagittarians out there are in for a lot of changes. A partial solar eclipse occurs when the moon’s shadow passes very close to the earth, but is not total. This eclipse starts in Texas, sweeps northwest to the Aleutians before heading back down the Japanese coast and ending over Hong Kong. This eclipse is in the sign of Gemini which rules teachers, writers and communication of all types.

If one of your personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars) or the ascendant is at 28 degrees of Taurus or Scorpio to 0 to 3 degrees of Gemini or Sagittarius this eclipse will be important and make an affect in your life.  Look back to see what happened on May 21, 1993. The eclipses repeat at the same degree of the zodiac every 19 years.   A Solar Eclipse can bring an ending in the direction in our life and open a door to another realm.  Remember,  Solar Eclipses are always very powerful times to meditate. Send out your intention of what you want to manifest over the next six months. A Solar Eclipse always occurs during a New Moon and New Moons are important because they bring in new, fresh energy.  

This eclipse is in a square to Neptune. Neptune can symbolize healing waters or poison.  It is the planet of escape, addictions and martyrdom.  Neptune is in its own Sign of Pisces, a water sign.  I believe the old timers would say this eclipse could bring flooding and/or weeping.  Maybe you will escape from something if this eclipse lands on a personal planet in your chart.

Lunar Eclipse at 4 Sagittarius/Gemini on June 14 

This eclipse will be visible from the Pacific Ocean, including Hawaii, New Zealand, and central and eastern Australia.  Those of you in western United States and Canada can also follow most of the event, but moonset will occur before the eclipse ends. This is a time of letting go of old emotional habit patterns and letting go of the people that you have become dependent on. This Eclipse affects two signs; Gemini and Sagittarius.  The sign of Gemini rules writing, teaching, lectures, the media and all forms of communications.  We may see the death of a renowned writer or professor.  There will be more news about who owns information.  Sagittarius rules foreign countries, the law and higher education. This eclipse could bring up more news items about how we communicate with foreign countries. What laws we have to put in place to protect information.  Look back to see what developed in your life on June 4, 1993.

The Lunar Eclipse gives us opportunities to break out of our current cycles and move on to a different level.  A Lunar Eclipse can make us more aware of our cycles and patterns, and our unconscious motivations. Lunar Eclipses can bring up old memories and feelings.  As a full Moon, a Lunar Eclipse tends to bring completion or endings. On a Lunar Eclipse something will end and on a Solar Eclipse something will begin. A Lunar Eclipse is an opportunity to break habits or eliminate socially conditioned patterns of thought and behavior that stand in the way of self realization.

Full moon eclipses can bring things to completion that you have been working on. You can finally make decisions about issues that you have been thinking about. The Sun opposite the Moon, lights up the Moon and brings previously unexamined areas of your life into awareness. 

This eclipse is conjunct Venus at 16 Gemini and square to Mars at 13 Virgo.  These are the planets or relationship.  Venus has a tendency to be sweet and understanding and enjoy peace and tranquility but Mars wants action.  Even though there is square between these two planets, this eclipse could be beneficial and stimulate relationships that are now dormant.  Since Venus is retrograde on this eclipse, it could bring old relationships back into the picture.

Lunar Eclipses are more emotional than Solar Eclipses.  Because a Lunar Eclipse only happens on a full moon, two houses in your natal chart will be affected. 

This Lunar Eclipse will affect you if you have personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and/or Mars) or the ascendant at 11 to 17 degrees of Sagittarius/Gemini.

An eclipse tends to emphasize matters related to the house it falls in on your natal chart or what planets it conjuncts, or opposes.  The areas ruled by the houses or planets will demand more attention, thought, energy, and time from you, at least until the next Eclipse. Eclipses open doors and invite us to come in, illuminating and stimulating areas of our lives that need our attention.

Look for the houses in your chart that contains 28 degrees of Taurus or Scorpio to 0 to 3 degrees of Gemini or Sagittarius for the Solar Eclipse of May 20, look for the house containing 11 to 17 degrees of Gemini and Sagittarius for the impact of the Lunar Eclipse of Jun 4.  To see a brief list of items covered by the different houses in your birth chart click here
